20th Century music was a place of wonder, surprise, amazement and - at times - unsettling things. Packed with enigmas, it's only when you find the truly peripheral artists that you start to realise how wild and untamed innumerable scenes were. Maybe that's thanks to the lack of rapid fire social media marketing, which would certainly not forgive the more unearthly and unusual acts, with their cursed "you have to listen to it properly" music. Up there with the best, and weirdest, were Shadow Ring. Active between 1993 and 2003, Wax Work Echoes take its name from a line in their 'breakthrough release', 'Put The Music in its Coffin', which was hardly a big hit but nonetheless attracted adoration from fans of art rock, post-post-punk, and general freakishness, many of who stuck around for the full decade. The band did some amazing stuff during that time, but this album remains a cornerstone and benchmark for the group. Prepare to be... pleasingly baffled.
