Description
This is the Original 1968 Mono pressing of SF Sorrow by The Pretty Things.
On the Blue and Black Columbia Label.

This album has been played several times but has been well looked after. It plays well on both sides with no jumps or skips. There are no scratches on the vinyl, just the usual hairlines which are a result of the record being slid in and out of the sleeve. The textured labels are near mint and the record is housed in the original EMI inner, and a fully laminated gatefold outer sleeve, printed and made by Ernest J Day & Co Ltd. LONDON
The outer sleeve has some laminate lift around the edges due to creasing and the laminate has cracked on the spine, although the text 'Pretty Things SF Sorrow' is still perfectly readable. Overall it is still a clean presentable cover. The inside of the gatefold sleeve contains the narrative and the lyrics and is in very nice condition with all the colours bright and vibrant. There is no lifting of the flipbacks.
THERE IS NO WRITING, GRAFFITI, STICKERS OR STICKER RESIDUE ANYWHERE ON THIS ALBUM.
A TRUE COLLECTORS ITEM.
SF Sorrow was recorded at the Abbey Road Studios by the legendary producer Norman Smith who sadly passed away recently. Norman also worked with The Beatles and The Moody Blues who were both recording their own respective albums at the time.
Norman Smith was an innovator and was at the cutting edge of his profession when it came to new methods and creating new sounds. He most certainly left his mark in the music industry, which you will see when you listen to this mono album.
The Pretty Things have said that they prefer the mono recording of their album SF Sorrow probably because of the reasons above. Although stereo was becoming more popular, and the record was pressed in stereo as well, the mono version is something truly special and a valuable piece of music history. This was the very first " Concept " album, based on a short story written by Phil May. The band are still active and recently performed the album in a live performance.
The album did not sell very well initially and that is the reason that not many of the originals were pressed. I'm not sure why, but I understand that The Pretty Things had a long running dispute with Columbia Records. Years later, the album began to get the recognition it deserves and reissues were made in both mono and stereo, on vinyl, tape and cd.
Plenty of the original stereo versions keep popping up but the mono versions are much more scarce and are preferred by collectors.
Anyway, thats enough babbling from me, I'm sure you know most of it already.
