SEOMPI – Summer’s Comin’ On Heavy. Rockadelic Records RRLP 33. NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Recorded circa 1971 and previously unreleased. This issue released in 1998 and comes with heavy black vinyl outer sleeve with inner standard Rockadelic weight record jacket. MEMBERS:  Dave Williams, Bill Reid, Pat Rockhill, and Mitch Watkins. TRACKS:  Summer’s Comin’ On Heavy, Lay On The Floor, And I Ain’t Seen Him Since, A.W.O.L., Elijah, Almost In The Hole, Slide Slide, Sticky Situation, and Voodoo Chile. DESCRIPTION:  Seompi was an acronym for "self expression on musically potential instruments," and also the name of one of the hardest-rocking bands to come out of Texas in the early '70s.  Groups like Josephus, ZZ Top, and Mariani were changing the face of Texas rock. Music was becoming heavy, and many former garage bands were experimenting with new sounds and techniques. One such band was the Headstones, from McAllen, TX. Formed by Dave Williams in the mid-'60s, the Headstones earned quite a bit of success locally. The band evolved into Meat in 1968, but a marijuana-possession charge landed Williams in jail, and the band split. When he was released in 1970, Williams teamed up with Patrick Rockhill and Bill Reid to form Seompi, which featured two bass players and a drummer (no guitar, at least at the time). They were signed to the Black Star label, for which they recorded the single Summer's Comin' On Heavy, and recorded another single for the Yin Yang label the same year. Although the band never recorded an album, a number of their songs were recorded, and they became favorites on the Texas hard rock circuit.  Summer's Comin' On Heavy is the first collection of Seompi material gathered in album form. The tracks on this album were selected from nearly six hours of tapes. While some of the recordings have noticeably deteriorated because of age and neglect, the album gives the listener an accurate representation of Seompi in its heyday. First released on the Rockadelic label in 1998, Seompi were touted as the Black Sabbath of Texas, which is a rather inaccurate handle as the bulk of the material is progressive hardrock psych with jazzy phrasings and flashes of avant garde. It's still heavy and powerful stuff though, especially the awesome AWOL/Elijah blowout that closes side 1. Their two famous 45 tracks are included in alternate versions, along with a bunch of originals featuring a skull splitting cover version of Hendrix's Voodoo Chile. This limited edition vinyl pressing of 600 copies comes housed in a super-deluxe silkscreened heavy vinyl black outer slip case jacket over the top of the standard Rockadelic style album cover. Long out of print, I recently picked up this single copy…so now you have one more chance to pick up this legendary release!

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

RETURN POLICY:

It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal systems it is beyond my control. With first class mail international my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country. NOTE:  Based on recent buyer feedback, International packages have been moving much slower these days; it is not unusual for a package to take over three weeks for delivery (especially to Italy), though normally packages should arrive in 7 to 15 business days.
