Description

Lovely condition copy of this early stereo recording of Der Rosenkavalier issued complete on four Columbia Records (SAX 2269-2272) with the original turquoise/silver label design.

Featuring : Elisabeth Schwarzkopf (The Feldmarschallin), Otto Edelmann (Baron Ochs), Christa Ludwig (Octavian), Eberhard Wachter (Herr von Faninal), Teresa Stich Randall (Sophie), Ljuba Welitsch (Marianne) and many others with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Herbert von Karajan.  Possibly the strongest cast of any recording ever made of this opera.

Condition is superb.  The spine of the box is a tiny bit faded and has one or two marks but the front cover is impressively clean and shiny and the set comes complete with its original 8 page small insert with an introductory note by William Mann.  There is no libretto as this was only available on payment of an additional sum at the time of release.

All vinyl surfaces are visually in near mint condition.  There is a tiny mark at the very start of side 1 which looks like a scratch but does not feel or sound like one.  Otherwise all surfaces are flawless.  Sonically the set is a real treat with no real pops or crackles and just the faintest surface noise occasionally noticeable.

All in all, then, this is quite a hard to find set in really first class condition.  Treat yourself !
