Description
SEVEN Samson vinyl LPs collected from 1980 onwards. Includes the " Bruce Dickinson Era" compilation , "Head Tactics"with tracks from "Head On"(containing the original version of Iron Maiden's "Ides of March", recorded here as "Thunderburst")and the following year's "Shock Tactics", which was better produced and featured a Russ Ballard composition as the single "Riding with the Angels" ( oddly, nothing is on the "Head Tactics" compilation from the "Survivors" album, on which the Singer is named as "Bruce Bruce") ."Before the Storm" & "Don't get mad, get even",featuring future "Uli Jon Roth" & "Mammoth" vocalist Nicky Moore, would have probably seen them join Uriah Heep as being unlikely "big in America" stars if they had been released a couple of years later than they were; "Storm" has famously iconic cover art and impressive strong hard rock anthems, and "Even" albeit without a particularly notable sleeve, continues the muscular approach, if a bit more simplistic than it's predecessor(Lyric / photo insert included) It is remembered for supplying one of the the BBC Radio 1 "Friday Rock Show" jingles, appearing here in it's original form as "Lovehungry". Finally, the Live compilation "Thank you & Goodnight" takes various live tracks marking the end of the Nicky Moore era, adding a 2nd guitar to the live band's sound. Which is where my interest ended, although The Paul Samson Band and Paul Samson's Empire carried on recording and gigging, they had missed the train caught by Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Def Leppard etc around this time.
