Pressing Identification

This appears to own a first pressing based on these traits:

• Black vinyl with standard black Plan 9 labels (not red/orange reissues).

• Mastered by Trutone in dead wax, consistent with early pressings.

• Matrix numbers etched, not stamped, which was typical for independent U.S. punk releases in the mid-80s.

• No barcode on the back cover (Caroline reissues later added one).

Tracklist Verification

Side A:

1. Diabolos ’88

2. In My Grip

3. Mother of Mercy

4. Birthright

5. To Walk the Night

6. Let the Day Begin

Side B:

1. Halloween II

2. November’s Fire

3. Kiss of Steel

All tracks listed and labeled correctly.

Collector Notes

• This album is one of the most sought-after in the Samhain catalog, with the original Plan 9 pressing being the most prized.

• Reissues (with barcode, red/orange labels, or 180g vinyl) are less valuable — yours is clearly not one of them.

• The presence of Trutone mastering and lack of reissue markings are key to authenticity.

Vinyl Condition: VG+ (Very Good Plus)

Visible traits:

• Both sides appear clean.

• Labels are clean and fully legible, spindle hole shows very minor wear.

• Etchings in the deadwax are sharp and undisturbed.

• There’s some light surface reflection that may suggest faint superficial marks, but nothing that appears deep or feelable.

Playback expectation: Minimal surface noise in quiet passages. No skips or significant distortion.

Cover Condition: VG (Very Good)

Visible traits:

• Front and back artwork are vivid and clear.

• Noticeable ringwear on front top and some edge/corner wear, particularly on the spine.

• Minor scuffing along the edges but no seam splits or major creases.

• No barcode (confirming early pressing), and no insert was visible in the images (if missing, this slightly reduces collector value).
