SALAMANDER – THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
1971 UK LP on YOUNG BLOOD RECORDS
Impossibly rare first pressing with vinyl in great condition!!! This is one of the holy-grail albums for collectors of early 70s prog-rock and it’s easy to hear why, this is an album packed with gorgeous, melodic, organ drenched heavy and lighter ever-changing passages that serves to illustrate all that was questing and inventive about the genre. This is truly one of the must-hear albums from a heavy-duty collectors period and is definitely not to be missed; this really is the rare and wonderful stuff!!!

VINYL CONDITION
This Very Good condition album still has a nice glossy, clean looking sheen that has not been clouded by its age. A close up inspection under a strong light reveals a few light marks and tiny paper scuffs, but these do not affect play and there are no manufacturer’s defects in the vinyl, it has remained in great shape. The labels on the record only have moderate spindle wear, proving that this album has not been over played even though it has clearly been used a little by the previous owner.
SOUND
There is a superb meaty sound and great audio clarity on this original album, the sides both kicking off with close to silent run-in grooves and then maintaining a high standard of audio throughout. In no place does this album skip or stick and it gives a powerful hard sound that is totally satisfying, in fact my grading is definitely based more on the visible aspects. There is an occasional light crackle and perhaps one or two faint pops or clicks, but these are never loud or serious enough to spoil your enjoyment of this brilliant melodic progressive music.
COVER TYPE
Gatefold sleeve with one side opening
COVER CONDITION
This is a mega-rare album that, given its scarcity, I am starting at a low starting price. The one reason for this is some issues with the condition of the sleeve which has to grade as a Good. The sleeve is still fully intact and serves its purpose as a case for the album fine, but there are two visible areas of ware. One is that the previous owner has put protective tape around all the edges; this was presumably done because perhaps the seams were coming un-stuck but still I’d prefer it if the tape was not there. The second and most significant point is a severe tear across the front cover which should be clearly visible in the photos below as it goes across the word ‘Ten’. It has been suggested that someone of an artistic bent could touch up the front cover and return it to something like its former glory but I prefer to not go down that route; choosing instead to give an honest grade and let the future owner do with it what they will. Either way, this remains a great rare item from the prog-rock top drawer!

FRUIT TREE
This is my new Ebay outlet for rare and classic vinyl artefacts in the fields of Rock, Garage Rock, Psych, Folk, Acid Folk, Indie-Alt, Singer-Songwriter, real-deal country, rock’n’roll & doo-wop and anything that’s cool and scarce on round wax! I have a particular emphasis on the period 1966-1972 and a fondness for the Island, Harvest, Immediate, Vertigo, Charisma and Transatlantic labels, particularly from the period specified above but also on other smaller obscure labels and the cool later stuff you’ll find at places like 4AD too! I’m basically on a perpetual voyage of discovery, as you are I should think if you’ve read this far, and it’s always a case of anything unusual, weird and wonderful considered!
I strongly believe that any great music from the 60s and 70s was made for vinyl and simply has to be heard this way; it’s the format the music was made for and the difference in sound to an original vinyl pressing to a CD issue is often astounding! I take this vinyl affection through to the best new music as well, and to this day prefer to hear a great new album on a vinyl pressing if one is available. To this end, Fruit Tree Records on Ebay will from time to time unearth newer vinyl treasures as well as vintage ones for your delight.
I will always play grade my records and endeavour to describe them with 100% accuracy so that you know everything you need to know; there’s nothing to hide so please e-mail me any questions. I know from my years of collecting how important a detailed description is when buying over the internet. I shall offer a money back guarantee on any legitimate complaint, this will only be refused if the buyer didn’t read something I clearly stated in the description or simply decides they don’t like the music. Finally, I hope you find something through my Ebay portal that you like.
