At last, Roy Harper has been recognised at the Radio 2 Folk awards with a Liftetime Achievement Award, which is very pleasing. Not enough people know his hugely imaginative and unique style of music, a blend of folk, rock and progressive elements that sounds as fresh today as it ever did. Harper was a huge influence on others, including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Kate Bush and many more.

This album is my favourite and widely regarded as Harper's best. To my ears there really is no other album like it. It consists of just four epic tracks, as follows:

Side one

1."Hors d'œuvres" – 8:37

1."One Man Rock and Roll Band" – 7:23

2."Me and My Woman" – 13:01

It is a mixture of sweeping melody, profound lyrics and some outstanding guitar playing. Harper's own guitar work is augmented here by an uncredited Jimmy Page. The way the two players work together at the close of "Same Old Rock" is stunning. If you like skilful finger picking style you'll listen to this album time and again. The album also features David Bedford on keyboards: he also did the orchestral arrangements (Bedford also worked extensively with Mike Oldfield).

The vinyl is in VG condition, and the sleeve is in VG+ condition. The gatefold sleeve is fascinating in its own right, and there is also an insert (in VG+ condition) which features the lyrics of the tracks. The inner sleeve is the original one, with a cellophane insert to add extra protection.

This is a highly collectable album. It was the album that first introduced me to the genius of Roy Harper and I still remember when I bought it and the first time I played it - I think I played it five times in a row. I still listen to it regularly and it sounds fantastic every time. One of my top 3 albums of all time.
