I think one great line of vinyl collecting is when initial issues of LP covers are changed due to complaints from record company executives, from censors, or from the buying public.

Remember the Beatles “Butcher Cover” and the Mamas & Papas “Toilet” Cover? Or how about the Dave Clark Five “No-Instruments” Cover or Blind Faith’s “Topless Girl” Cover? And don’t forget Three Dog Night’s “Nude” Cover and their “Birthing” Cover. Replacement covers were issued for all of these original covers.

In this auction is Roxy Music’s original cover for their “COUNTRY LIFE” LP as well as the replacement cover for. So in this auction are 2 LPs (2 Covers & 2 Vinyl Records).

LP #1:

• “COUNTRY LIFE” LP by Roxy Music

• This LP is ATCO (Atlantic) RECORDS SD 36-106

• It was released in 1975.

• This ORIGINAL COVER, the “Underwear Ladies” cover, features 2 women scantily clad in their underwear. It was found to be objectionable in several countries including the U.S. The ladies are standing in front of bushes or a hedge.

• On the replacement cover, the ladies are gone but the bushes or hedge remain!!

• The ORIGINAL COVER is in VERY NICE/STRONG VG+ CONDITION with very light overall cover wear and very light wear on the corners.

• The VINYL that comes with the Original Cover is in VERY STRONG VG+ to NEAR MINT CONDITION with just a few very light/slight surface hairlines.

• This LP also comes with its original custom inner sleeve with song lyrics. It has a 1-inch split in the center of the bottom edge and a small corner crease.

LP #2:

• “COUNTRY LIFE” LP by Roxy Music

• This LP is ATCO (Atlantic) RECORDS SD 36-106.

• It was released in 1975.

• On this REPLACEMENT or REISSUE COVER, a photo from the album’s back cover that featured only the bushes was used. So, the ladies in their underwear were gone but the bushes or hedge remained!!

• The REPLACEMENT COVER is in STRONG VG CONDITION with light to moderate cover wear mostly at the top center and right side areas of the front and rear cover. There is moderate wear on the corners, especially on the lower left corner of the rear cover. The rear cover also has several light indentions that could have been made with a person’s fingernails while holding the cover. There are very small “pushes” on the bottom two corners.

• The VINYL for this REPLACEMENT COVER is in VERY STRONG VG+ to NEAR MINT with just a few very light/slight surface hairlines.

• This LP also comes with its original custom inner sleeve with song lyrics. This custom inner sleeve has 4 ½ to 5-inch splits on both side edges and 6-inch split on the bottom edge with a 3-inch piece of clear tape in the center.

So, in this auction, you get both the original and replacement/reissue covers. These two LP LPs go hand-in-hand and would look great framed on the wall in someone’s “vinyl room”!

FYI: I use Goldmine Grading Standards (P for Poor, F for Fair, G for Good, G+ for Good Plus, VG for Very Good, VG+ for Very Good Plus, NM for Near Mint, M for Mint) to VISUALLY GRADE this LP, so please know the descriptions of these grades before bidding.
