Description
The Rolling Stones - “Sticky Fingers” COC 59100 - earliest cover & zip. With Insert.
This copy of this iconic album has the following characteristics:
The zip is the earliest used on UK releases - a plain square hole design with no logo or brand, just with two indented parallel lines.
A4/B3 Matrix Numbers.
The zip opens to reveal a credit to Andy Warhol.
The cover opens both at the top and bottom.
The labels do not have “A Promotone N.V. record” printed on them.
Both runouts are etched “T.M.L. ROLLING STONES RECORDS”.
Matrix / Runouts:
COC-59100-A4 T.M.L. ROLLING STONES RECORDS 23 D
COC-59100-B3 T.M.L. ROLLING STONES RECORDS D C
Vinyl: VG+
At first glance the vinyl looks immaculate, and for the most part it is - bright, clean and glossy. There are however a couple of marks on each side (see photo), which I believe have been caused by the zip - both the one on its own cover and also when pressed against other copies either in the record plant or the store. The reason I suspect this is because this copy also has eeriely similar marks on the back cover - which can’t possibly have been caused by its own zip.
These marks cause very light clicks and ticks in a few places on “Wild Horses” and “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” on Side A, and “I Got The Blues”, “Dead Flowers and at the beginning of “Moonlight Mile” on Side B. It’s all pretty subtle, and doesn’t distract from the listening experience too much, but it’s there nonetheless.
Aside from these marks, the sound quality of the entire album is absolutely superb - it really does sound as if it could have been pressed yesterday. No static, no background crackle at all. Without the clicks, this would comfortably grade EX+.
Cover / Sleeve / Insert: EX- / EX / EX+
The cover is in excellent overall condition, with just a few minor blemishes:
The mark on the back, as mentioned - see photo.
A crease on the belt of the front cover - see photo.
The zip itself has some light copper corrosion - see photo.
The original inner sleeve is in excellent condition for its age, with just a little yellowing/discolouration.
The insert is in excellent condition.
Labels: EX+
Both labels are close to perfect, with just a few light spindle marks on each side.
All records have been pro-cleaned and are supplied in Analogue Studio poly-sleeves and protective outer sleeves.
