Description

From my personal collection: Up for auction is a 1968 first pressing of the Rolling Stones' "Beggars Banquet" album.

This was made by Decca UK as an export version only for the Japanese market (under the London label). There was no genuine Japanese pressing before 1973. Catalogue number is PS-539, matrix no. XZAL-8476-1K, JT tax code on label and on matrix. This is an amazing historical document on its own, but what makes it even more stunning is the fact that it came out with a 7'' flexi disc including an interview with Mick Jagger. Someone from Tokyo called him in his London studio on April 17th, 1968---right in the middle of recording "Beggars Banquet".

The pressing quality is superb (heavy vinyl!), and so is the laminated gatefold sleeve made by Garrod And Lofthouse. This is the complete set including the flexi-disc and flexi sleeve, original "ffrr" polylined inner sleeve, two lyric/insert sheets in Japanese language and, most importantly, the infamous Mechoku OBI strip. (In case you're wondering: these OBI strips are rather different than the usual ones from Japan, probably because they were made in England. They can't be fixed to the cover which is probably why most of them were lost over the years.)
This is a rare set even without the OBI - but a complete set including the OBI almost never turns up these days.

Please have a look at the pictures---everything about this set is in beautiful condition, especially for a record that's almost 50 years old. I grade conservatively.
