Buddy Holly recorded "What To Do" on December 3, 1958 in his New York City apartment. Sometime after December 17, 1958 he and his child bride went back to Lubbock for Christmas with the family. Far as I know. Anyhow, after recording three songs at K triple L on December 28, 1958 he and Maria Elena returned to their New York City apartment where over the next three weeks Buddy recorded ten or so "cover" tunes. This slow version of Little Richards "Slipping and Sliding" was the first one he did on or about January 1, 1959. Sometime between May 1962 and August 1968 the Fireballs consisting of George Tomsco on lead guitar, Keith McCormick on rhythm guitar, Stan Lark on bass guitar and Doug Roberts on drums over dubbed over 50 of Buddy Holly's demos, alternate takes and what ever so, according to Norman, they would be more commercial. All of their over dubs though far from perfect were certainly head and shoulders above the Jack Hansen work. By the way, the three songs Buddy cut at K triple L were "You're The One" vocal and guitar by Buddy and back ground "noise" by Waylon Jennings and Slim Corbin, "More And More" and "When You Are Lonely" vocals by Waylon Jennings and guitar by Buddy Holly and Waylon. You probably want to know how I know all of this so I'll confess Buddy gave me the acetate so I could copy it for the person he really wrote it for. Buddy wrote "You're The One" for my next door neighbor. The other sharing the royalties had nothing to do with it.
