Description
1966/Cdn/Capitol(rainbow) T-6182.........Formed in Toronto, Ontario, in the mid-sixties Robbie Lane and The Disciples began life as a backing group for Ronnie Hawkins and were later a host band on C.B.C.-T.V.s 'It's Happening'. Ronnie Lane was the son of a successful car dealer. The full group initially performed as The Lincolnaires and most of the individual musicians had previously played in groups with car-engine monickers such as The Concords, The Convertibles, The Cyclones, The Rebels and The Spitfires. Ronnie Lane's real name was Robin Curry. In addition to the recordings above they also recorded a 45, Baby Ruth, using a different monicker, The Butterfingers. Fannie Mae, their debut 45 was a good rendition of a Buster Brown song with some nice churning piano and harmonica. The session was produced in Toronto by Ronnie Hawkins sideman Scott Cushine and was a local hit after its release in July 1964. Ain't Love A Funny Thing climbed to No. 12 in January 1965, spending six weeks in the Top 40. They enjoyed three subsequent hits of which one, What Am I Gonna Do, made the Top 10 on 20th June 1966, spending a total of eight weeks in the Top 40. In June 1965, they parted company from their mentor Ronnie Hawkins, but their profile as a successful host group on C.T.V.'s 'It's A Happening' show helped get them a recording deal with Capitol. Sandy, notable for Lane's excellent vocals and some fluid guitar work from Bush, gave them their first hit for Capitol..RE: DREAMS, FANTASIES & NIGHTMARES..........this rare original pressing on the Capitol 6000 series is in gorgeous condition!, the cover is in excellent to M- condition with only the slightest storage wear, no splits or delete and looks great!, the vinyl is in shiny near Mint condition and could possibly have been unplayed, a superb copy of this rare Canadian lp, please check my auctions for other Canadian rock and psych lp's, good luck and thanks for looking!
