Description
Riverside RLP 12-611, "American Street Songs" from 1956; probably released in 1957. One side are unreleased sessions recorded by Paul Clayton in 1950; the other side are sessions by the Rev. Gary Davis recorded when he was still playing on street corners around 125th Street. The vinyl plays at VG with light static throughout and occasional light pops; the inner tracks play much quieter than the outer ones. There are few marks on the vinyl surface. The jacket is VG with heavy-ish wear on all seams but no splitting; the jacket back is age-toned; there are no bends, writing, or stamps. Songs are (Side A) "John Henry", "Every Day of the Week", "The Ship Titanic", "Greasy Greens", "Wreck of the Old 97", "I've Got Mine", "He's in the Jailhouse Now". Side B: "Blow Gabriel Blow", "Twelve Gates tot he City", "Samson and Delilah", "Oh Lord Search My Heart", "Get Right Church", "You Got To Go Down", "Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning", and "There Was a Time When I Was Blind". For those familiar with Pink Anderson's 1961 recordings on the Bluesville label, the change in his voice over ten years is rather remarkable. Shipping is $4.00 media mail, $8.00 priority mail within the continental U.S.; $20.00 regular airmail to the U.K., Europe, Japan, Korea, and Australia; elsewhere inquire. Additional LPs in a single package are $1.00 per LP domestic, $2.00 elsewhere. For overseas shipments, I strongly recommend registered mail for $12.00 extra. Many old records are now practically antiques and should be treated that way. This LP will be packaged with the record inside an inner sleeve but outside the jacket; both are placed inside a sealed outer sleeve and shipped inside a special oversized handcrafted mailer with padding on all sides. It is designed thick enough not to be caught in a postal conveyor belt and strong enough to withstand a drop from a second-story window with no damage to LP or jacket. More than two LPs may be mailed together in a heavy Bags Unlimited pizza-style box. Your LP should arrive in the same condition as on the day it was shipped. All used LPs are play-graded on a VPI turntable with Audioquest tonearm and Grado cartridge.
