Reference Recordings Dafos Special CES Test Pressing SEALED, RARE! Hand Delivered by Tam Henderson, President RR.
Time to break open the check book. This is a piece of audiophile history. I alluded that I was in the high end audio industry and that I had some RARE pressings virtually no one else has. This is one of them! I am now going to be listing other rare records like this so check my other listings.
The Short Story: This record was hand delivered by Tam Henderson to exhibitors at Winter CES (Las Vegas, NV) to use as demo to debut the album Dafos by Mickie Hart, Airto, and Flora Purim. It is SEALED and ultra rare.The Long story: We were exhibiting (Unity Audio) at the Winter CES high end exhibitors area in the Sahara (Las Vegas, NV). We had an excellent relationship with RR as their Sales Manager had come over from Monster Cable who we had worked on several projects with. We were known as "analog crazies" because we brought a 150 pound turntable (a Micro Seiki 5000 w/282 arm and Fidelity Research MC-201 cartridge) to do our demos. Tam Henderson had driven through the night to hand transport pre-production master samples of their new record "Dafos" which was supposed to be finished in time for the show (like every high end manufacturer...they were late). He arrived with 16 copies, I recall. We were in a room down the hall from RR and were one of Tam's first stops after meeting with the press. "I have an incredible new recording for you to demo. Mickie Hart drops a drum and it blows up audio systems!" "Oh...good Tam. Just what every high end manufacturer wants is to blow up their systems 2500 miles from their offices at a CES show." "But it sounds incredible." "OK, I will make you a deal. Leave some samples and if you come back and listen to it in person, I will open it and demo it the rest of the show. This way if it blows up my system I can pummel you personally".
Anyone who knew Tam in the early days of RR knew this was a sure bet. Running around like a crazy person, Tam never made it back to our room. If fact employees of RR left the factory in shifts so they could transport copies of Dafos as they were finished. How many were ever made? Not many. How many exist to this day SEALED? In my researching this sale I have never seen one of these come up for sale or change hands, much less one that is sealed. This is a piece of history. Do not miss out.
This is one of many Reference Recordings records being sold from my private collection. I was in the industry (high end audio) and have many special pressings and collectible albums that I will be listing so please check my other auctions (they are coming). My specialty is Prog rock and mint Japanese pressings, as well as audiophile pressings. All records that were actually played by me were cleaned first on a VPI cleaning machine and spun on a Micro Seiki 1500 FVG air bearing turntable with FR FR-64 Fx tonearm and Fidelity Research MC-202 cartridge. My collection has been in storage for 10 years in climate controlled environments and never exposed to pets or smoke. All albums are kept in plastic sleeves to avoid warping and most inner sleeves (if the cheap paper) have been replaced from day one of opening the album with liners made by discwasher or Mobile Fidelity.

Condition Notes:
Records are generally graded on visual inspection.
Mint: A brand new, SEALED record, never played.
NM: Near Mint. An unsealed record that looks as good as new.
VG++: Excellent. Light cosmetic flaws that should not affect the sound.
VG+: May have cosmetic flaws, mild surface noise or short patches of ticking, but should sound fine overall.
VG: May have moderate noise throughout or one or two bad patches from scratches. Still fine for general listening.
Good: Noisy, but plays through. I will only sell very rare or unusual items in this condition.
