Description
Up for auction is an exceedingly rare version of the 1964 Vee-Jay Records release Songs, Pictures, and Stories of the Fabulous Beatles (Please Please Me). There are several souvenir variants of this album which were sold at the merch stands during The Beatles 1964 tour of the US, all with long black stickers overlaying the base of the gatefold cover. This particular record was sold only at their August 23, 1964 Hollywood Bowl performance. I have only seen one other example of this particular souvenir version and despite how legendary this performance was, this particular sticker seems to be super hard to come by.
Condition is unfortunately a bit rough and is NOT a high grade piece in any respect- I'd grade the record at a high G or low VG. Scuffing marks throughout, with a very noticeable, long scratch on side 1 and another long scratch on side 2. Plays with clicks, pops, and surface noise, but still listenable. Entire record has a slight warp to it when it plays but nothing too extreme (see vid). No skips on any of the tracks and there is some luster remaining. Sleeve I'd grade similarly, with wear, soft corners, foxing, and a 4 1/4" long seam split along the top. There is a bit more splitting along the top near the fold. Both the record label on one side and inside the gatefold has the previous owner's name labeled on. Original Vee-Jay insert is intact.
