RARE PAUL McCARTNEY PRESS TO PLAY LP
I bought this album on the day of release in 1986 (from Our Price Records in Stratford-Upon-Avon). Turns out it is a rarity, a first pressing featuring a completely different mix of the track Press to the one which appeared on subsequent pressings.
Thank goodness then that I have taken great care of the album over the years. The vinyl remains clean and unmarked, with no markings round the centre spindle hole. The gatefold sleeve and its original insert, which features full album lyrics, also remains in tip-top condition.
The fact that this is an early copy, containing the alternative version of Press, is revealed in the run-out grooves, into which the words Press To Play and Masterdisk have been etched on both A and B-sides. Two matrix numbers (PCS 7306 A-1-U-1 and PCS 7306 3-3U-1-) have also been scratched out and replaced with alternatives (PCSD 103 A-1U-1-3-1 and PCSD 103-B-3U-1-).
These numbers mean this copy features a mix of Press completely different to the one used on subsequent pressings. If any Ebayer is interested in the album and has questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
Although this wasn't one of Macca's biggest successes, the album offered a bright, vibrant and melodic selection of songs, six co-composed with former 10cc member, Eric Stewart. The full running order is:

The gatefold packaging, including cover photograph by legendary Hollywood 'snapper', George Hurrell, and stereo drawings made by Paul during the mix, is certainly amongst Macca's finest.
All in all this is a lovely offering and a Macca rarity.
