Description

Here is a collectors item rarely  offered on Ebay.
This record has great historical value because it is one of the first albums to feature the artwork of ANDY WARHOL.Ironically,The drawings featured on this album were used to advertise an anti-drug documentary that aired to millions of Americans in 1951on a CBS radio broadcast. The program was called THE NATION'S NIGHTMARE.There are 2 drawings by Warhol on the cover.the first depicts a junkie in the act of shooting up. and the other shows two guys fighting in front of a boatyard.Warhol recieved an Art Directors Club Medal for these illustrations. The first of many graphic arts awards he would win throughout the 50's...
This record has more going for it than the incredible cover art.The radio programs are highly entertaining& pretty hilarious pieces of anti drug&anti crime propaganda. There are so many sampling possibilities,it's ridiculous. The CBS narrator comes off like a hybrid of Troy McClure&Mcgruff the crime dog.The word "DOPE" is used at least 30 times& is almost always emphasized for dramatic effect.
"The peddling of DOPE" or "Heroin,marajuana&cocaine...The deadly triumvirate of DOPE"You learn  all the different names for different drugs."Heroin, also Known as HORSE" etc...
A 12 year old kid describes the art of mainlining...
All this and so much more...
Cover is strong VG to VG+.or 7 out of 10.Drawings look sharp and brilliant. No seam splits. There is some minor corner damage and some moderate bind wear. There is some writing in pen that is pretty small..There are a few small orange dots in the letters GH in the word NIGHTMARE.I highlighted these blemishes in one of the photos.
Vinyl is also solid VG to VG+ or 7 out of 10.
Plays fine the whole way through. There are some sleeve scuffs and light scratches that mostly do not affect play. There are no skips but has occasional surface noise and scattered lightpops that are very subtle&never overpower.Side 1-TRAFFIC IN NARCOTICS plays a little bit better than side 2 CRIME ON THE WATERFRONT.
Labels featuring Warhol's art are in beautiful NM condition.
This is a great chance to own a piece of history that almost never turns up.NO RESERVE!
