SO HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION:  WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW?  WHY COLLECT THEM? WHERE DO THEY COME FROM? 

Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.

  Radio Shows are syndicated productions by one of several large and small distributors who supply broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break. 

 Many air on Saturday or Sunday evenings or during overnight segments.  They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees and Dick Bartley and so many others. 

People collect them for various reasons. 

 Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all.

  Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music.  Rather than an album by the artist or a compilation bought at Wal Mart or wherever, they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and often with dj presentation which is very entertaining. 

 Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments. 

 Some collect commercials especially old car commercials but certainly not limited to only those.

AND, these shows are in limited quantity. 

 They were pressed just for syndicated stations. Many have just a few in circulation.  Some of the more popular shows may have as many as a few hundred of each week's show that survived but think about it.  A few hundred for some 200 million Americans and millions of overseas collectors who look for unique presentations of their favorite artists or form of music. 

Many if not most stations just tossed them away after airing because they could never be aired again due to the time limited commercials and the lack of space in most radio stations.  (Believe me, I know!  I work at one!!!

 SO there are likely only a few left of any given show and they are increasingly hard to find. 

 They were first distributed on reel to reel tape if the show goes back that far into the 60's, then later on lp, later on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR.  Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes. 

These shows become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them and the people who sell them, like me, are running out of them.   My best contact for these shows is finally out of shows so I am now at the mercy of finding a good deal here and there but never from a regular source.  The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase.

  Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown. 

 And you just can't find them anywhere.  Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any.  

 Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of radio at least music wise. 

 And every  one you buy is  an original, not a copy, not a remake

If you enjoy classic COUNTDOWN shows, this one is a MUST!  Called "CBS's TOP 30 USA" it aired weekly on the CBS RADIO NETWORK and was hosted by the one and only Machine Gun Kelly, one of rocks greatest dj's and producer of many of the top radio shows ever aired such as Live from the 60's.

CBS's TOP 30 USA WITH M.G. KELLY was a three hour show on three lp's in new condition with their cue sheets in mint condition and housed in a beautiful album box as shown in the listing picture. 

It features the best of the best in countdown  shows including flashback songs, interviews and artist features.

It is extremely rare and has been in my collection over twenty years. 

The show comes on three LP's in new condition, and looking like they were just pressed. I can guarantee to you that these shows were played only on the day of their airing.  I know this because I got them all from a special source who was the station engineer and was given the shows in thanks for all the work that he did for the station.  They have been with him until now when he allowed me to have access to them.  These shows are as new as you can get and they can be yours.

This show was very popular because it aired on all CBS owned and operated stations along with many others across the country.  CBS had a lot of money to put into its product and the production values on all its shows were superb. You will see that this one was no exception.  From its packaging to the actual production values in the show, it is unequaled.

The show used the Radio and Records Magazine weekly charts for its Top 30.  This publication was said to have the most accurate placement of the top songs of the week over Billboard and Cashbox Magazines because their survey included listener requests to radio stations which gave a more up to date picture of a song's popularity.  

If you are a collector of a series, there were three manifestations of the distribution of this show 

  The earliest , from July, 1983 when the show started through July 1984 were released in a yellow box with the air date in the bottom right corner. Most of these boxes have crushed on at least one of the sides because of age but are very attractive.

Of course these earliest shows, and I think I have listed the second or third show of the series and most of that first year, are extremely rare and true collector's items, but then they all are

 The next series through July 1985 was released in a yellow tri fold album and are also rare.

  Remember, most radio shows were just sent out in their sleeves to radio stations since it was assumed they would be thrown away so it was not necessary to overdue it.  

CBS felt differently about its shows and they were all released in a quality box and the cue sheets were printed on heavy bond paper.  Of course the fidelity of the records themselves is unquestioned.   

The last years of the series was in a white album cover, again as pictured.

This show aired on NOVEMBER 2, 1984!

I am pleased to offer these great  and rare shows to you.  It is not only the music but a piece of Americana that most people do not even know about.  It is a piece of radio history you are getting with these shows.  You just aren't going to find these shows anymore.  Think of what they will be worth in a few years!  (IF you wanted to sell.)  I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price.         

Even the commercials are great and fun to listen to and remember they are over 34 years old.

 Remember that these shows are disappearing from the market because they are no longer available.  The lp shows have not been made since around 1991, much earlier for some shows,  and they have the truest fidelity as you know if you are an audiophile.  The CD shows are now also unavailable as shows are now only in digital downloads.  So, the days of unique shows not copied from the soundboard of a station and sold as such are gone.  This is all there is and will be. 

 It is said that selling radio shows is a vanishing hobby as the shows quickly disappear.  Well, I still sell Betamax machines and they sell quickly whenever I list them so that is not true, but it is true that they will become rarer and harder to find so grab them now while the prices are still reasonable.
