THIS ENTITY PROVIDED THE UPLIFTING  ENTERTAINMENT OVER MANY DECADES SINCE WORLD WAR ii FOR MILLIONS OF MILITARY PERSONNEL AND THEIR FAMILIES STATIONED MANYTHOUSANDS OF MILES FROM HOME, HELPING TO BRING SOME PLEASURE IN THEIR LIVES OF DANGER WHILE AWAY FROM LOVED ONES AND HELPING KEEPING DEMOCRACY ALIVE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

IT IS HARD TO IMAGINE TODAY IN THE AGE OF THE INTERNET AND STREAMING, AND IPADS OR SMART PHONES WITH THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF SONGS DOWNLOADED AND SAVED IN THE CLOUD, JUST HOW IMPORTANT THESE SHOWS WERE BACK IN THE DAY, AND NOT THAT MANY YEARS AGO.

HERE IS HER STORY THANKS TO WIKIPEDIA.

Chris Noel (Sandra Louise Noel, born July 2, 1941) is a retired American actress and entertainer. Noel is best known for her appearances in beach party movies in the 60s, and for her work on the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service Vietnam Network as the "Voice of Vietnam".  A popular pin-up girl of the era, Noel made frequent visits to troops, and was at risk many times, having twice been shot at in the helicopters she was riding. She hosted the radio program A Date With Chris, one of Armed Forces Vietnam Radio's most popular shows.

Noel's picture appeared on the cover of Good Housekeeping magazine when she was 16 years old. she became a cheerleader for the New York Giants football team. Posters that showed her holding a Kodak Brownie camera were displayed in camera stores .Chris was the cover girl for a number of magazines and appeared in advertising for Ford Mustang

In addition to her work on radio  in Vietnam, she toured the country eight times, including twice with Bob Hope. Her interest in that war's military personnel began with her visit to a San Francisco VA Hospital in 1965. She said, "That was the moment. I prayed to God to help me help young men in war." She was considered so valuable to American military morale, that the enemy placed a $10,000 bounty on her. Noel opened the show with the greeting "Hi, Love". Twice her chopper was downed by enemy fire while she was visiting American military personnel in Vietnam. Her radio show A Date with Chris was recorded in California and South Vietnam between 1966 and 1971.  Noel was the DJ for her show and did interviews with artists . Noel received the Distinguished Vietnam Veteran award in 1984 from the Veterans Network for her work during the war.  Her last visit to South Vietnam was in 1969. Noel first co-hosted an Armed Forces Radio show called Small World, which was a hit and led to her own show. Noel sang, danced, read poetry, signed autographs, talked to, kissed and hugged the troops in South Vietnam from 1966 to 1970.  She is the only woman to travel through South Vietnam to remote bases in helicopters, riding with the door open, next to the gunner. She survived mortar and assault rifle attacks. Noel broadcast her radio show from Saigon while in South Vietnam.

SO HERE ARE SOME BIG QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS LP: 

 EXCTLY WHAT WERE THESE LPs THAT WERE BROADCAST SOLELY ON MILITARY RADIO STATIONS ALL OVER THE WORLD? 

 WHY COLLECT THEM? 

WHERE DO THEY COME FROM? 

Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.

  American Forces Radio and Television Service offerings (previously Armed Forces Radio and Television Service) are lps pressed by the military under license from record companies for use only on military facilities around the world.  

AND, thus, these lps are in extremely limited quantity. 

 They were pressed just for military stations on board ships such as aircraft carriers (that's where I first came across them), and military facilities all over the world and there just were never that many, of course, perhaps a hundred or less.

The military radio stations used the music in their programming much as state side radio stations did for their listeners and each of these albums had tracks used in the programming depending on the main orientation of the station.

Unlike today when we listen to stations that play the kind of music we want to hear, back then there would only be one station, or later on possibly an FM add on to the primary AM so there had to be a little something for every taste in music while the primary focus was either pop or country.

So, it would be rare that every track in an album would be played on a regular basis and often, many were never played.  That is one of the reasons why most of these records are in such great condition after all these years after their release.

They served an invaluable service to our fighting men and women who, when away from home, wanted to connect with the music they loved.

It was before the days of internet so these records were one of the only ways our military men and women could keep in touch with the music and programming from home, listening to their AFRTS station.

You would not believe how many collectors from across both ponds who were not in the military but listened religiously to Armed Forces programming and now treasure these shows and would pay far more than our prices for them.

They were played on military run radio stations on bases or ships, and lovingly cared for because they represented home for everyone who heard them.

 There were just a few in circulation. One lp for each military facility around the world.

 AND for that reason,  they are increasingly hard to find, especially since as military bases were closed and Navy ships decommissioned, remaining lp discs were lost or destroyed. 

This show was called A Date With Chris.  It came on one lp with two half hour shows on each lp. 

These lps become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them.  The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase. 

And, A Date With Chris is very special to anyone who served in-country Vietnam.  Believe me, I know, She got me through the war.

These shows are true Americana 

I am pleased to offer these great  and rare lps to you.

 It is not only the music but a piece of Americana that most people do not even know about.  It is a piece of radio history you are getting with these shows.  You just aren't going to find these lps anymore.  Think of what they will be worth in a few years!  (IF you wanted to sell.)  I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price.         

 Remember that these lps are disappearing from the market because they are no longer available.  

The lp shows have not been made since around 1990, much earlier for some shows,  and they have the truest fidelity as you know if you are an audiophile.  The CD shows are now also unavailable as shows are now only in digital downloads.  So, the days of unique shows not copied from the soundboard of a station and sold as such are gone.  This is all there is and will be. 

 It is said that collecting and selling radio shows is a vanishing hobby as the shows quickly disappear.  Well, I still sell Betamax machines and they sell quickly whenever I list them so that is not true, but it is true that they will become rarer and harder to find so grab them now while the prices are still reasonable.
