Description
Available here is 12" vinyl test pressing for the Roy Harper album Born In Captivity. Something of a rarity, the record centre has a Mayking Records Ltd label, a stamped date of 7 Jun 1985, with additional hand-written marks.
History - This album is pretty rare in its official form where it first appeared on the Hard Up label in 1984. Numbers vary but possibly limited to an initial release of only 830 vinyl copies, which were sold quite quickly. I believe that it was not available commercially but only through Roy Harper. This release is also said to be a demo or acoustic version of 1982s Work of Heart but with quite a few changes, different arrangements, and some other songs. I’m assuming that this test pressing is for the 1985 Awareness Records reissue, particularly given the AWL 001 mark to the record centre.

Vinyl Condition - Very Good - The record is visually mint, extremely bright and clean and only close examination will reveal a couple of light surface marks. Having listened to the record, I can confirm that the sound is very clear with a little background crackle now and then and the odd click. This is most noticeable during the quieter moments, although a few clicks are apparent during the start of Drawn To The Flames. Further clicks to be heard during part of No One Ever Gets Out Alive, which also has an inexplicable short buzz or semi-skip early on. However, there is no mark to the vinyl at this point, so possibly an issue with the pressing.
Sleeve Condition - Very Good - Original plain white inner sleeve with light wear. Mint outer white card sleeve still largely covered with a cellophane film. Large pictures of both sides of the disc and sleeve are available on request.
