Falling halfway between musical primitivism and art rock ambition, Roxy Music's eponymous debut remains a startling redefinition of rock's boundaries.
Simultaneously embracing kitschy glamour and avant-pop, Roxy Music shimmers with seductive style and pulsates with disturbing synthetic textures.
Although no musician demonstrates much technical skill at this point, they are driven by boundless imagination -- Brian Eno's synthesized "treatments" exploit electronic instruments as electronics, instead of trying to shoehorn them into conventional acoustic patterns. Similarly, Bryan Ferry finds that his vampiric croon is at its most effective when it twists conventional melodies, Phil Manzanera's guitar is terse and unpredictable, while Andy Mackay's saxophone subverts rock & roll clichés by alternating R&B honking with atonal flourishes.
But what makes Roxy Music such a confident, astonishing debut is how these primitive avant-garde tendencies are married to full-fledged songs. That was the trick that elevated Roxy Music from an art school project to the most adventurous rock band of the early '70s.

Side 1: Re-make-Re-model / Ladytron / If There Is Something / 2 H.B.
Side 2: The BOB (Medley) / Chance Meeting / Would You Believe? / Sea Breezes / Bitters End

LABELS: NEAR MINT/MINT
An immaculate pair of labels - clean, bright and factory-fresh - one spindle trace on Side One, none on Side Two
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
Both surfaces shine like-new - a couple of wispy hairlines - of no audio consequence
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
Superb sound quality throughout - crystal clear, sharp and finely detailed and my play-check at volume found little to fault - just a few intermittent ticks (which will no doubt disappear after a few spins as this copy is practically untouched) otherwise, beautifully clean on the quiet sections - lovely example and they really don't come much better
SLEEVE: NEAR MINT
Again, stunning condition - as clean, sharp and fresh as the day it was made with a glass-like glossy sheen
INNER SLEEVE: NEAR MINT
The pale blue, poly-lined Island inner has some natural discolouration to the areas where the glue was used to fix the lining but is otherwise clean and unmarked
