· THE RONETTES - PRESENTING THE FABULOUS RONETTES FEATURING VERONICA (PRODUCED AND ARRANGED BY PHIL SPECTOR) – ULTRA RARE TRUE STEREO PRESSING ON TRUE PHILLES RECORDS LABEL – THIS IS NOT A CAPITOL RECORD CLUB RELEASE - ORIGINAL1964 PHILLES STEREO LP (DO NOTE THAT THIS PHILLES PRESSING BEARS A TYPICAL PHILLES CATALOG NUMBER ON BOTH RECORD AND THE COVER, WHEREAS CAPITOL RECORD CLUB PRESSINGS BEAR A TYPICAL CAPITOL RECORD CLUB CATALOG NUMBER ST-90721)
· UNTIL RECENTLY, WHEN A HANDFUL OF STEREO PRESSINGS ON 'PHILLES' LABEL INEXPLICABLY TURNED UP, IT WAS BELIEVED THAT THE ONLY STEREO COPIES OF THIS ALBUM WERE CAPITOL RECORDS CLUB PRESSING; THIS COPY IS PROUD TO DEBUNK THIS MISCONCEPTION. YES, ALTHOUGH THEY EXIST (WE HAVE A PROOF HERE), "PROPER" PHILLES STEREO PRESSINGS ARE SO MINDLESSLY RARE AS TO BE VIRTUALLY NONEXISTENT. WE BELIEVE LESS THAN 100 WERE MADE, OF WHICH PROBABLY LESS THAN 30 STILL SURVIVE IN PLAYABLE CONDITION TODAY. THIS IS ONE OF THE MAJOR, MAJOR EARLY '60s ROCK RARITIES)
· ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING
· MONSTROUSLY RARE STEREO PRESSING, MANY TIMES RARER THAN MONO (NOTE: STEREO PRESSINGS OF THIS ALBUM CONTAIN SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT MIXES OF THESE CLASSIC WALL-OF-SOUND TRACKS; NAMELY, THE LADIES VOICES ARE MORE PROMINENT, EXPOSED AND STRIPPED RAW, WHILE THE RHYTHM SECTION IS SLIGHTLY MORE SUBDUED IN THE MIX THAN ON MONO VERSION, THUS RESULTING IN SOME VERY REVEALING "HOLES", CRACKS AND BREACHES IN PHIL SPECTOR'S MIGHTY 'WALL OF SOUND')
· ORIGINAL YELLOW & RED PHILLES RECORDS STEREO LABEL (BLUE STEREO LABELS DO NOT EXIST)
· ORIGINAL, THICK CARDBOARD COVER (AMERICAN STYLE)
· COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL SHRINK (CELLOPHANE) WRAP
· THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. STEREO PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.
· CLEAN, WEAR-FREE LABELS
· THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING
· THE RECORD HAS 'AUDIOMATRIX' MACHINE STAMP IN THE TRAIL-OFF VINYL (DEAD WAX) AREA, WHICH IS GENERALLY CONSIDERED A PROOF OF AUTHENTICITY OF THE FIRST PRESSING.
· STEREO version of this album has NEVER been available on legitimate Compact Disc or in any other digital format.

The wall of sound - a production method patented by Phil Spector (which involved - inter alia - torturing the artists for maximum effect: just ask Tina Turner who was tormented so badly during the recording of "River Deep, Mountain High" that her tight bra fell apart) - does not get any more vivid than this. This collection of songs is a proverbial fortress of sound, consisting of multitude of overlapping layers of voices, sound effects, cascades of rhythm and ornamentation, and polyrhythmic textures; a joyful, luscious, retrogressive, a*al-retentive, guilty-pleasure of a bygone era. Phil Spector is king!!! Absolutely critical album in the development of R&R, absolutely, positively the finest Phil Spector's project ever, and one of the most visually arresting covers in the cover-design history. And, oh yes…mega-rare album in any shape or form. No need to thank us for listing this beauty - it was positively a labor of love!
***
Innocence is not a requirement for purity, as this album proves. Nedra Talley, Estelle Bennett, and right up front, Veronica Bennett (later Spector) sounded more in love with being in love than any other girl group. Simple lines like "For every kiss you give me/I'll give you three" say more about the absolute need of the savage teenage experience than any lyrics ever voiced. The sound effects for the opening number set the ambience, because it is always starting to rain when Ronnie sings. "Be My Baby," with Hal Blaine's divinely inspired drumming (especially the fade-out), is the fullest plea for reciprocity beckoned by mortals. One of the most fun is "Breaking Up," which, swear to God, sounds like the Beach Boys if they were girls. The album closer, "Chapel of Love," is so substantially different from the hit version by the Dixie Cups, that it becomes a different song. And everything else in between is gorgeosity made flesh. Producer (and Veronica's husband) Phil Spector may or may not have been projecting his ideas of the perfect woman here. But he certainly found and refined the perfect sound.
(REVIEW BY PHIL MERSHON, WWW.FURIOUS.COM)
For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, or for some other innate quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye, Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice (of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita" fame), Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton (who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan's first album), Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). For more details, see: "Critics Choice: Top-200 albums" compiled by Paul Gambaccini, Omnibus Press, Library of Congress Catalog No.7855565 (or ►click here for the complete album listing).
Track listing: Walking in the rain - Do I love you? - So young - Breakin' up - I wonder - What'd I say - Be my baby - Baby, I love you - How does it feel - When I saw you - Chapel of Love.

· CONDITION:
· THE RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD++ . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)
(b) Stereo pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that Philles mono copies of this album outnumber Philles stereo copies by a ratio of at least 200:1.
(c) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· THE COVER
THE COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP; HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS EXCELLENT OR VG+++(A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)
