Without a doubt, no other Rolling Stones album split critical opinion as much as the this psychedelic outing.
Many dismiss the record as sub-Sgt. Pepper posturing; others confess, if only in private, to a fascination with the album's inventive arrangements, which incorporated some African rhythms, Mellotrons, and full orchestration.
About half the material is very strong, particularly the glorious "She's a Rainbow," with its beautiful harmonies, piano, and strings; the riff-driven "Citadel"; the hazy, dream-like "In Another Land," Bill Wyman's debut writing (and singing) credit on a Stones release; and the majestically dark and doomy cosmic rocker "2000 Light Years From Home," with some of the creepiest synthesizer effects (devised by Brian Jones) ever to grace a rock record.
The downfall of the album was caused by some weak songwriting on the lesser tracks, particularly the interminable psychedelic jam "Sing This All Together (See What Happens)."
In 1968, the Stones would go back to the basics, and never wander down these paths again, making this all the more of a fascinating anomaly in the group's discography.

Track Listing:
Side 1: Sing This All Together / Citadel / In Another Land / 2,000 Man / Sing This All Together (See What Happens)
Side 2: She's A Rainbow / The Lantern / Gomper / 2,000 Light Years From Home / On With The Show

LABELS: The labels are clean and bright with no unwanted marks/writing. There are some spindle traces (some randomly placed) but not an excessive amount - this copy has been played but not over-played
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces still retain their original deep, glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - there is a tiny mark on "She's A Rainbow" which gives rise to some light background ticks (see below) but otherwise, beautifully clean surfaces
VINYL Audio: Outstanding audio on this pressing with a superb loud cut and a crystal clear, rich and sharp sound - very, very impressive indeed - not unexpected as Decca cut some of the finest sounding records of the period. On playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listings) there are no skips or jumps, no surface noise, no groove-wear or distortion and just a few light 'ticks' on "She's A Rainbow" (very light and not particularly intrusive and none anywhere else on the record - and I did play-grade at a very loud volume). The whole LP plays beautifully and cleanly throughout with practically silent run-ins and track divisions and with the quieter sections playing just about as quietly as you could wish for. Critically graded EXCELLENT for audio but overall much, much better as apart from the light clicks mentioned above the playback is pretty much flawless - very, very nice copy indeed
SLEEVE: The 3D gatefold is NEAR MINT but for a small (old) repaired tear to the bottom of the front leaf (please see close-up photo). This is the part of the sleeve which commonly has this problem as when opening the cover the front section is quite heavy due to the plastic 3D front-piece and it bends under the weight. Otherwise, the sleeve is clean, fresh, unworn and unmarked and has all the feel and appearance of being made yesterday - great cover
