An increasingly rare and sought after copy of this 1967 UK early MONO pressing rock gem on the unboxed DECCA label, MONO TXL 103

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  ARL - 8126 - T2 - 2K with stampers "1" and "U" (could be "L1" - hard to distinguish) at 9.30 o'clock and 3.30 o'clock respectively

Side 2  ARL - 8127 - T2 - 2K with stampers "1" and "U" at 8.30 o'clock and 2.30 o'clock respectively 

The "K T" tax codes are also present at 12 o'clock on side 2 of the dead wax area, again indicative of a very early UK pressing

The appearance of the thick vinyl is VG+. Completely flat and when viewed in normal daylight still retaining a nice glossy sheen with occasional wispy hairlines and some minor scuffing -  a few hairlines and light scuffs are noticeable in daylight when the vinyl is tilted at the right angle and a few more come into view when the vinyl is inspected under a bright light, but with nothing "feelable" and all appearing to be surface only, apart from a single light scratch on side 1 which is feelable (just) and results in mild clicking during most of "In Another Land" and during the first minute of "2,000 Man" - this is not nasty, loud clicking but the clicking is audible. I can identify no other below the surface scratches, hairlines or scuffs but because of this specific blemish I have to grade the condition of the vinyl as very good.

The labels are excellent. The only blemishes are some light spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each side. The turquoise background finish and silver writing remain as impressive as ever. Note the "deep groove" characteristic of each label which is again indicative of early UK DECCA pressings.

The front and back (but not centre) laminated Robert Stace gatefold outer sleeve is VG+.  All edges remain firm with minimal scuffing and that includes the rigid spine where all writing remains perfectly legible. The iconic front and reverse side artwork and colouring remains completely intact with a vibrant appearance - very impressive. Each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with minimal scuffing and there is no fraying on the opening edges. There is barely any laminate lifting but there is a light 4 cm diagonal laminate crease at the bottom left corner on the reverse side. The 3D picture itself remains in perfect condition. The only other blemish is a 2cm laminate split located in the centre of the spine which is not immediately obvious but which I have tried to show in one of my photos. The centre of the gatefold is wonderful, with all artwork and colouring completely intact and no unwanted writing or doodles. VG+ is a fair and accurate overall grading of the condition of the gatefold. 

Finally, the quality of the audio is VG. In fact for much of the record the audio quality is VG+ or excellent with impressive tone and clarity even at higher frequency and volume. The exception to this, and why I have to downgrade the overall audio quality to "VG", is the aforementioned clicking during most of "in Another Land" and which spills over into the first minute of "2000 Man"- this is not nasty loud clicking but each click is audible. There is also some mild (and I really do mean "mild") background crackle at the beginning and end of each side and during some of the quieter moments - again, not intrusive but it is noticeable if you listen carefully. Despite these blemishes this record still makes for a great listen.

Comes with original psychedelic red and white inner sleeve with a with (rarely) no splits or tears or fraying and just a little creasing in the corners - EXCELLENT+! Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a solid VERY GOOD (many would grade as VG+, I am sure) copy of this rare and highly sought after 1967 UK very early mono pressing - a worthy addition to any vinyl collection and will only continue to gain in value.

I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
