Description

ROLLING STONES - Their Satanic Majesties Request

1967 UK first issue fourth label variant 10-track deep groove MONO LP

On the light blue, unboxed Decca label,

This is a true mono mix indicated by the 'P' matrices in the run-outs, & not a later stereo fold down to mono pressing

Housed in a superb lenticular 3D front laminated gatefold picture sleeve

This is a Very hard to find Vinyl LP in Mono!

The sixth release by the Rolling Stones was recorded over a number of sporadic sessions amidst a blur of court appearances, prison sentences, & psychedelic drugs. Arguably one of the Stones' more 'out there' affairs, it received mix reviews at the time, & remains a controversial release in their back catalogue.

Matrix Numbers:

Side 1 - ARL-8126-1P   BU   KT   2 0

Side 2 - ARL-8127-P1   BC   KT   2D

The original master tape was mixed two times, the first one was used for mono records only and the second one was used both for mono and stereo records. The two mixes, in this instance, used for pressing the mono record can be identified by the matrix number.

As the matrix numbers on this copy contain the 'P' identifier, it confirms a first, true mono mix. Later 'T' matrices were in fact the stereo recording folded down to one channel to create a mono sound.

Take the song “The Lantern” for example. There is a bell tolling in the beginning of the song. A true mono record has the bell tolling three times before the music starts. A fold down from stereo to mono AND a real stereo LP has the bell tolling two times before the music starts.

This is the first issue sleeve, with the mono text on the bottom right hand corner of the back of the sleeve, later issues had this printed on the top right hand corner. Also worth noting that if you look closely in the 3D part of the sleeve you can pick out images of Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Paul McCartney & George Harrison lurking amongst the psychedelia. Good luck, it took me a while to spot them!

The red flame inner is present & correct,

The labels reveal some spindle wear to indicate play however have Marcus written in side 2 which is my husbands name!

The heavyweight vinyl grades excellent with a number of cosmetic scuffs & hairline marks here & there but very little that upset the mono playback

This is one of 10000 singles LP's, 12” and 7" that I HAVE COLLECTED OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS; they run from the 1950's to the 2000's and cover every style of music.

I am slowly listing them one by one and they are in a verity of condition, most are good or very good, with some in shop purchased condition (i.e. Like new), I don’t have time to play every record listed, (well only the ones I want to listen to), therefore I can’t vouch for the playing condition of this item, however if you want to know how it plays please ask and I will play it and let you know if there is any excessive hissing, scratches and what condition the vinyl is in.

I have kept most of these records for 30+ years plus so my goal is to make sure they arrive with you in the same condition that I have kept them, enjoy bidding and please feel free to ask any questions and I will try to answer them

The record will be packaged in a protective plastic cover and be despatched in a custom cardboard record sleeve with a cardboard backer.

If you purchase more than one single the cost of Shipping is an additional 50p per item won.

If you purchase over 5 singles they are posted in a thick cardboard record box rather than a standard record postage sleeve at no extra cost, which means they are protected from the weather and the postal service, every item has proof of postage.
