The Rolling Stones : Tattoo You A-1 / B-2 1st Press 1981

This first pressing plays with stunning quality and has no interference.  As always I have listened to every track in full and there is nothing that stands out, the clarity is incredible.  As you will read S1 plays to a very high standard but S2 is just out of this world!  This is impressive when you consider this side is largely made up of quieter numbers.  A lot of critics liked it and in my opinion it's a return to form, an underrated album in my opinion.

The cover is without doubt the best I have ever seen, a stunning example that has been so well preserved over the last 43 years.  The printed inner sleeve is 'as new' also.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has an strong glossy 'look' with no scratches.  There is a little mottling here and there but it is very faint and a small number of faint hairlines but you can only see this when you hold the vinyl at a certain angle under a bright light.  It is purely superficial as this has no affect on the superb audio at all.  The labels are also very clean with no marking and no spindle wear.

Play grading

The unmistakeable intro on 'Start Me Up' plays perfectly and Jagger's first vocal is equal to that with no intrusion.  It continues to play with unrivalled power and the vocal are so clean and powerful here.  The rhythm section of Watts and Wyman play with such quality here and their contributions are very high in the mix, sounds great.  The production on this track is superb also and every section plays with tremendous clarity and power.  Mint

'Hang Fire' is as close to perfect that you will find.  There are just two very light ticks at the end and when I say they are in the background I mean buried deeply in the background!  This is easily a Mint- track.

The intro on 'Slave' is flawless and then the first 'vocal' section has no background either.  From then on it plays with stunning precision and I only heard one barely audible tick.  Some light static right at the end of the fade out but Mint- is still deserved.

The Richards' sung 'Little T&A' plays with superb audio throughout with no sign of any interference.  The sonic quality is so impressive and Mint is an easy grade to give.

'Black Limousine' plays with sublime precision through every vocal and instrumental section.  If there is any inner groove distortion on the vocal it is so so minimal and scarcely worth a mention!  Mint-

'Neighbours' ends the side with real power and depth and... no interference.  Jaggers' vocal is so strong here and it plays so clearly with that usual raw quality.  There is perhaps just a little more distortion towards the end but should I down grade because of that?!  It is minimal and overall Near Mint is deserved.

The intro and opening vocal on 'Worried About You' play with great clarity with only a handful of very quiet statics.  This high end standard is kept up as it progresses and the mid instrumental has no intrusion, no distortion.  Jagger's next powerful vocal is 'as new' and to the end it plays with such precision.  Mint- is an honest appraisal of the audio, it really is a stunning version.

Once more you cannot fault the audio on 'Tops' as it plays with a clarity and depth that could not be any more impressive.  It plays 'as new' with not so much a dust tick.  This side is pretty good so far!  Mint

'Heaven' is sensational!  From the quiet intro this underrated classic plays with stunning clarity and warmth right through to the final note.  A delicate number by their standard you would not believe how clean and precise the audio is and there is obviously nothing getting in the way of the audio.  There is a super quiet tick in the middle section but honestly it is unbelievably quiet and I only mention it because it's there!  A great track that still has to grade as Mint

'No Use In Crying' also plays like it has never seen a turntable before!  The clarity of sound is perfect and you know the grade.  Mint

'Waiting On A Friend' ends this very impressive first pressing with such clean and precise audio (again) and without any background.  I cannot believe how well this side plays!  I mean S1 is superb but this side is superb etc etc!  Every section is crystal clear and the clarity of sound is stunning for a final track. Mint all the way.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in fantastic condition with barely any wear, almost nothing!  There is just one minor rub on the bottom edge by the right corner and a couple of tiny specks on the top edge.  The spine is perfect, the corners are super clean and the opening edge has no handling wear.  Both the front and back cover are pristine, a stunning example basically!

The inner sleeve is also in perfect condition with no wear of any kind.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
