UK FIRST PRESSING VINYL LP IN SMALL ZIPPER SLEEVE WITH LYRIC INNER AND ORIGINAL WHITE INNER SLEEVE. This copy is an absolute first pressing first matrix numbers both sides.

There are two identical UK first pressings, one with A3/B3 matrix and one with A4/B3 matrix, both which were pressed before the album was released from first generation laquers. There were no earlier matrix numbers than A3/B3. This album almost immediately topped the UK chart as 'Brown Sugar' had been a massive hit, so a lot of copies were pressed up before the release date of 23 April, 1971. All first pressings must have T.M.L. ROLLING STONES RECORDS hand written in the run-out grooves (TML being The Mastering Lab), later pressings were not pressed there and suffer from a darker, less dynamic, duller, un-exciting sound - only the TML mastered UK, USA and early German pressings are worth owning if you love this album – and who doesn’t? The sleeve has no writing on the rear except for the 'tongue' logo in the bottom right corner. There is a world of difference in the sound-scape once you compare one of these to any other pressing. It is subtle, but definitive...You know it once you've heard it. The zipper on the sleeve is 'small' and 'square' and the rear sleeve has no writing other than the Stone's tongue logo. The inner credit sheet is on thicker card than later pressings.

SLEEVE: VERY GOOD BUT DOES HAVE SOME SHELF WEAR, MINOR NICKS AND ABRASIONS, EDGE WEAR, CORNER BUMPS, CREASES ABOVE BELT BUCKLE, PRICE STICKER MARK FRONT TOP RIGHT. ZIPPER INTACT BUT NO LONGER WORKS (PROBABLY NEEDS SOME OIL AS IT HAS RUSTED A LITTLE). INSERT IS VERY GOOD BUT HAS SOME SPOT MARKS ON WHITE SIDE. INNER SLEEVE VERY GOOD WITH SOME WEAR.

DISC: VISUALLY A VERY GOOD+ COPY THAT PLAYS MOSTLY EXCELLENT MINUS. NO SCRATCHES BUT THERE ARE LIGHT HAIRLINES AND THERE IS SPINDLE WEAR. THERE ARE SOME 'IN THE VINYL' MARKS ON THE TRACK 'DEAD FLOWERS' BUT THIS DOES NOT SOUND. CLEAN LABELS BOTH SIDES. A VERY DECENT BUT NOT PERFECT PLAYING COPY THAT OFFERS THE SUPERB AUDIO THAT ONLY THESE FIRST PRESSINGS HAVE. LATER PRESSINGS JUST DO NOT SOUND LIKE THIS. NO SKIPS OR JUMPS, JUST SOME POP/STATIC IN THE QUIESTEST OF PASSAGES AND BETWEEN A FEW TRACKS.
