Description
Up for auction is a 7.5 ips tape of a selection of Rolling Stones songs primarily from their Some Girls LP. The tape came from a batch which seems to have originated from the desk of a former boss at EMI. I’m not sure why he would have had Rolling Stones dub tapes in his possession, but that is all I know. There’s no paperwork or marking on the box beyond the hand-written titles, which are: Lies, (When The ) Whip Comes Down, Shattered, Turn To Gold (presumably Everything Is Turning To Gold, a non-LP b-side), Before I Run (presumably Before They Make Me Run), Miss You. I have no idea if these recordings are as released or are different versions as I have been unable to test it. I will try to do this at some point during the auction’s run, if at all possible.
Update: I have now spot-listened to the tape, and it does indeed seem to be a collection of working versions of Some Girls titles. The actual recordings seem to be the same takes as the released versions, but mixes, intros & endings for at least some of these recordings are generally rougher than on the official releases. Total duration of the whole tape is approx 34 minutes, and fidelity is fine. If anyone from the Rolling Stones management would like to contact me to withdraw this item from auction, I am only too happy to do so.
Condition: tape & box all seem cosmetically fine.
My grades: I use a 10-point scale: M-; EX; VG+; VG; VG-; G+; G; G-; F (fair); P (poor). I never use mint as a grade for used records. I am a long-time (25+ years!) record collector, and play-grade where possible. I don’t use stock photos: the item pictured here is the item for sale. My feedback from buyers indicates I normally undergrade in listings. Even so, if you have any problems, I'll give you your money back (less shipping costs), no questions asked. Buy with confidence! Please note that this is a deliberately lo-fi recording (phone mic held in front of loudspeaker!), and it not indicative of the audio fidelity on the tape, which is just fine.
