Rolling Stones – Single Stones UK Box Set

Rare Decca Box Set and Poster from 1980

This lot consists of a box set of twelve 7” singles and a matching 20”x30” Colour Poster. The singles were released in the UK in 1980 and sold from record shops in the normal manner. The Collectors Box and Poster were only available through a mail-order offer. The offer originally included an enamel badge, but that is NOT included in this lot for auction.

The Collectors Box

This box set was definitely not one of Decca’s better offerings. The yellow and blue box is made of rather thin flimsy card, and is not really up to the job of holding twelve singles. The glue has come unstuck over the years, and there is a two-inch tear along one of the edges (see photo 3). I am grading the box as GOOD PLUS (G+).

Note: A similar box set of 15 singles was released in Japan by London Records. This set for sale is the UK Decca release.

The Twelve 7" Vinyl Singles

The singles and their pictures sleeves are all in lovely condition, having been kept in the Collectors Box since new. (Condition is at least EX-).

The records have blue injection-moulded labels, typical of Decca records from that period. (see photo 5)

They are all unique track couplings for the UK, and in the case of ‘Gimme Shelter’ is the first outing on a 7” single. Several of the other tracks are presented in stereo mix, whereas they were originally released in mono.

I’ve included the matrix numbers in the listings. Decca specialists may be able to find some scarce sources. ERFS stands for ‘electronically reprocessed for stereo’.

The 20"x30" Colour Poster

The poster was only available as part of the mail-order offer. I did briefly hang this one up, so it has got wear on the edges. I am grading this as VERY GOOD MINUS (VG-). See photo number 2.

Enamel Badge (not included)

The original mail-order offer included a silver and blue enamel badge showing the Single Stones logo. I can not find mine, so it is NOT included in this sale. (Sorry)

Newspaper Advert

I am including in this lot a full-page advert from Melody Maker (Sept 6, 1980) for the Single Stones collection and the mail-order offer. The page has been folded a couple of times, but is still in nice condition. (see photo number 4)

Postage and packing

Buyer pays for the postage costs, and should the buyer choose an uninsured method of postage, the goods will be sent at the buyer’s risk. Proof of posting will be obtained. The item will be sent out once the payment has been received, and I will post positive feedback on eBay shortly after payment has been made.

These items will be posted in two packages:

1)      The box set of singles (weighs about 600g) packed in a strong cardboard box.

2)      The poster and newspaper advert rolled up in a cardboard cylinder.
