Description
Please see the shipping information at the end of the listing before placing a bid, I will not ship overseas without signed for fully insured delivery due to non delivery of vinyl in the past. I post within the UK by signed for Recorded Delivery as standard, if the final price is over £46.00 then fully insured Special Delivery is mandatory at an extra supplement to the Recorded Delivery cost included free as standard on all listings.
Please see my feedback for vinyl sold previously from my own personal collection which I have amassed since the early 70s.
I have not sold vinyl for some time now as I have been concentrating on my other charity work having already listed much of my extensive collection. I now have decided to list a few more for collectors to purchase as my daughter was recently diagnosed with cancer herself and I want to donate futher additional monies to Cancer Research UK from my sales.
I will continue to sell with a donation to my chosen charities and thank you once again to all previous collectors who have helped raise so much for my chosen charities Cancer Research UK and Ty Gobaith childrens hospice. A friend has also asked me to sell a few of his cherished vinyl with a larger than normal donation to my chosen charity; these will be annotated as his vinyl on the individual listings.
This listing is:
DON'T WORRY YOU DON'T NEED YOUR EYES TESTING !! THIS REALLY IS A UK 1st PRESS OF STICKY FINGERS WITH A GATEFOLD COVER, IT IS A GENUINE UK 1st PRESS ISSUE - SO READ ON.
THE ROLLING STONES STICKY FINGERS GATEFOLD UK SUPERB 1st PRESS VINYL ON THE ROLLING STONES RECORDS LABEL WITH RED LIPS/BAND PHOTO INSERT 1971 COC 59100 A4/B4 MATRIX WITH TML ROLLING STONES RECORDS ETCHING ON BOTH DEADWAX RUN OFFS AND "PINCHED" SPINE ENDS
THIS IS NOT SOME STANDARD COPY WERE THE GLUE HAS COME UNSTUCK, IT WAS MADE AS A GATEFOLD COVER AND THERE IS NO GLUE RESIDUE NOR ARE THERE ANY FLIPBACK EDGES THAT ARE FOUND ON STANDARD COPIES.
It has been said by one of the most highly respected and trusted vinyl sellers on eBay that this ultra rare gatefold version was produced for export pre release in certain countries, that only a few hundred were ever made and that it is 10 times rarer than the infamous large zip version. I can make no such claims myself but what I do know is that it is ultra ultra rare and you would be very very lucky to find another one ever.
So many copies of this vinyl turn up in relatively poor condition either played on poor equipment or taken to parties in the early 1970s and thrashed. The vinyl is superb and has had only a handful of careful plays, most of them by myself as I bought this in the early 1970s, played it a couple of times and then taped it. I do have a standard copy which I am going to retain in my collection as this is one of the best Rolling Stones albums ever made.
Matrix numbers COC59100 A4 and B4 with the "TML Rolling Stones Records" etching on both runoff deadwax .
The vinyl has a superb lustre and has hardly been played, I am happy to grade the vinyl EX+/NM-.
The outer cover on a standard copy opens from the top and the vinyl is inserted, this gatefold version also opens from the top but also from the side to allow even easier access and prevents damage to the cover. The standard cover is glued on the right hand side and the "Andy Warhol" pants cannot easily be seen, on this gatefold version the "Andy Warhol" pants are clearly on show in full as detailed in the photographs, there is an indentation on the pants from the zip, normally the pants are not on show and the indentation on all standard and this copy would have been caused when the records were stored next to each other in racks in record shops prior to sale; indeed collectors will know that the large zip version was withdrawn because it was damaging the vinyl. There are a couple of small dot indentations in the rear cover which do not detract unduly from what is an ultra ultra rare cover. The cover has a superb zip and buckle together with the 1st press "pinched" spine ends only found on the very first pressings. Cover graded EX+
The red lips/band photo insert is present and is the Richard Davies Limited version which only came with the very first pressings and is printed on a thicker paper, so that the buyer can see the difference I have included a later UK 1st press version as part of the sale. Insert is graded Ex+
So here we have it, an ultra rare version which you may never be able to find again. It is difficult to put a value on so I am going to auction it with a realistic reserve based upon the ultra rarity and condition factors.
I have always stored my vinyl in plain cardboard covers separately from the album cover; the vinyl will be shipped in a new plain white polylined inner sleeve and then placed in a plain white cardboard cover with the both vinyl and album cover then placed in a sealed protective outer polythene cover.
I have decided to sell all my vinyl as my separates system ceased to work some time ago now and I find MP3 more convenient for the car and whilst on the move; having transferred over the majority of my vinyl collection to MP3 via a friend’s quality system.
I will retain a core of my most highly collectable and valuable vinyl which I will never sell just in case I return to vinyl one day in the future.
I have already sold Led Zeppelin I red/plum copies for £200 and £162, Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy with OBI strip for £139 together with Led Zeppelin II copies at £200, £135 and £128, Led Zeppelin IV at £250 and £132; Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland at £138 with Band of Gypsys at £133. Black Sabbath Paranoid for £74, Deep Purple Fireball at £91, Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers for £57 and John Mayall Bluesbreakers for £85.
I have sold a Led Zeppelin IV red/plum copy for £302 and Led Zeppelin IV (a true rare double matrix transitional copy for £204) together with Led Zeppelin In through the out door full UK set A-F for £326. A number of these buyers have returned and purchased further LPs both through eBay, in addition many collectors have bought privately from me having seen the quality of my vinyl.
I have an extensive live collection of Led Zeppelin vinyl and so message me if you are looking for something unusual and I might just have it, including white label test pressings.
I am a massive fan of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and the blues in general; I had in excess of 150 Led Zeppelin LPs at the peak of my collecting with over 50 red/plum copies, which were acquired when most of my friends moved over to CD.
I will not clean any vinyl before despatch as collectors have their own methods, storage over the years (quite often 40/50 years) will attract some dirt/dust in the grooves however well stored and so expect static and some minor surface noise and bear in mind the words of the legendary John Peel BBC DJ who said "Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise.I said, 'Listen, mate, life has surface noise."
Packing & Shipping:
Your purchase will be despatched within the UK by first class recorded (signed for) post in a pizza box type mailer with a minimum of 2 cardboard stiffeners and bubblewrap supplied by a reputable eBay seller and held in a poly sleeve. I do not use the cheap flimsy mailers used by some vinyl sellers as I believe they are not fit for purpose. See my feedback on packing and shipping of my vinyl; I have looked after it over the years and want it to arrive in the best possible condition. LP to be posted within 3 days of receipt of cleared payment to PayPal account. UK Special Delivery is mandatory at an additional postage cost for high value items as Recorded Delivery cover is currently limited to £46.00. eBay only allow max UK postage cost of £4.00 under new rules but any item over £46.00 in value must be sent fully insured and signed for delivery. Royal Mail have increased their postage costs from April 2011 and this is outside my control.
I am happy to ship overseas but this is by fully insured signed for delivery without exception. You can email/message me for a quote prior to placing a bid, I will deduct £4.00 from the cost of packing and shipping before invoicing overseas buyers so as to treat them the same as UK buyers.
I am not liable personally for compensation once the item is passed over to Royal Mail, however unlike a number of other sellers I will complete all documentation needed here in the UK to enable compensation due from Royal Mail to be claimed and then paid over to the buyer.
I only charge a nominal amount for packaging and do not look to make a profit on the shipping part of the sale.
Overseas buyers can email me for a quote based upon this LP and/or multiple purchases.
I am happy to combine postage on multiple purchases within a 7 day period. Please tell me if you intend to bid on multiple listings.
I look to cover my costs on shipping and NOT profit from this element of the sale. I cannot control postage prices levied by Royal Mail.

Thank you for looking and good luck if you decide to bid
On 04-May-11 at 07:48:38 BST, seller added the following information:Many thanks for all your interest shown in this ultra rare LP, a note just to let you all know that I have lowered the reserve price as I have had so many questions asking what the reserve is set at, I will not disclose this but have lowered it as there are so many watchers out there and I want to create even more interest in the time left before the auction closes.
