Description

VERY RARE test pressing on The Rolling Stones "Brown Sugar"/ "Bitch", both in stereo. First single with the Stones new record company, Atlantic, in 1971. The majority of the "Brown Sugar" testing pressings, and promos had "Brown Sugar" on both sides. Only a handful of promos with "Bitch" as the flip side were ever pressed. I have only seen 2. Even fewer test pressings were pressed and this is the only one I have ever seen. It's been in my collection since 1999. On the Atlantic label it was manufactured by the Specialty Record Corp. Both sides are in stereo, and the matrix numbers are: ST RS 21843-1/ST RS 21844-1. Date stamp in red ink is APR 6, 1971.

RECORD APPEARS UNPLAYED AND IS IN NEAR MINT CONDITION!

An acetate which has received approval is called a master lacquer. After a lacquer has been cut it is sent to a factory to be electroplated with nickel. This plating is the peeled away, which results in a negative metal print of the lacquer commonly referred to as a "mother". The first pressings to be run off the mother are test pressings; these may have special labels or they may be blank. Test pressings are then checked for sound quality and technical defects; if they are satisfactory, then promotional copies are pressed, generally for radio station distribution. Finally, the commercial, or stock, copies are pressed for sale.
