Description
The Rolling Stones : Out Of Our Heads
This is the first stereo pressing on the blue boxed Decca label and it is excellent condition. It has the first known label variation of the boxed version and these were first produced in 1970. The cover has the green coloured affect and is in great condition.

Visual grading
This vinyl is in lovely condition and retains a very healthy glossy sheen. There is no obvious spindle wear so I imagine it has only been lightly played and the audio confirms that. There are only a few very faint hairlines and a little 'mottling' but this has no affect on the audio. There is a more obvious hairline mark on S1, although short, but again it has no bearing on the superb audio quality. Overall a very impressive looking vinyl.
Play grading
'She Said Yeah' plays loud and true and with a real raw quality. As any Stones' fan knows this track plays with what sounds like distortion but it is such a loud track and that is just how it was recorded. In actual fact this album was recorded in at least three studios in the UK and USA and that is reflected in the inconsistency of sound. For example this first track 'sounds' so different to the next one 'Mercy Mercy'. This track has a lot more clarity and plays to near perfection with only one light click in the middle section. 'Hitch Hike' I would say was recorded in the same studio as the first track as the 'sound' is very similar with that same hard raw quality. It still plays incredibly well with no interference not even on the long fade out! 'That's How Strong My Love Is' is another classic example of an album recorded in different studios with different engineers. The clarity and depth is superb and the entire track plays faultlessly and easily grades as Near Mint if not better! 'Good Times' is of the same standard and quite simply astounding. The depth and warmth that exudes from this track is stunning and again there is no 'background' of any kind. 'Gotta Get Away' ends the side with wonderful audio, no clicks or pops and no static or crackle either. This is an album that has been hardly played judging by the impressive clarity on offer here. With only the one light click audio doesn't get much better! There is that tinny sound on some of the tracks but as I say that is how the album was recorded.
'Talkin' 'Bout You' plays very clearly from the outset and with only a 4/5 seconds of light static on the intro. The remainder is superb and plays nigh on perfectly. Again no clicks or pops and no 'background' on the fade out giving you a good idea of the clarity here. 'Cry To Me' plays with great depth and whilst it may seem like there is some distortion on the 'top end' I must re-iterate that this is how it was recorded. It certainly isn't because the vinyl has been overplayed and has some groove wear because it hasn't! The playback was still of exceptional quality. 'Oh, Baby' is again near perfect with only a minimal (very minimal!) amount of static right at the end. 'Heart Of Stone' has 3/4 light clicks on the intro and then plays with excellent quality and no further interference. 'The Under Assistant...' is superb from the very first groove. It has a deep rich sound and plays very clearly from beginning to end, it is a very impressive version. 'I'm Free' ends the album very clear audio although there is a little distortion, common on final tracks of course.
In summary whilst there has been much conjecture about the 'sound quality' of this LP due to the 'recording process' you cannot fault the clarity of the vinyl. With hardly any clicks the audio is very impressive overall. There is also near silence in the dead wax between every track, only one has a couple of crackle sounds, and this gives an excellent indication of the clarity on offer. The album plays with superb audio throughout and comes complete with a very clean cover.
The Cover
This is an excellent example of its kind. Printed by 'Robert Stace' it has the green coloured affect front cover and is very clean indeed. The edges and thin pinched spine are in superb order and are almost 'as new' and there is hardly any corner wear. The opening edge has no handling wear and appears almost untouched. The laminated front cover has only a couple of small creases next to the spine and only a very minor faint area of marking next to the opening edge. The back cover is very clean with only one very small scuff mark and a little fading around the edges, one more obvious mark on the bottom edge. There is no writing to be seen. Overall a very impressive cover that has been very well maintained down the years.
Inner sleeve
The poly-lined sleeve has no splits or tears and no marking either, just some light creasing. It has 'Made In England' and a Patent No printed on one side.
The labels
The blue boxed Decca are in superb condition with no visible spindle wear and no marking or writing. Stunning examples.
