Extremely nice copy of the Rolling Stones legendary “Aftermath” LP of 1966. Original first version mono pressing (Decca LK 4886) complete with the impossibly rare ‘shadowed’ lettering variant sleeve. Some estimates put the production of this original version cover at only the first few hundred copies pressed - it’s definitely near the very top of the list when it comes to the most desirable (and expensive) Stones U.K. releases. If you’re reading this I’m sure that you don’t need me to go over the top about the rarity of this item. FRONT COVER. Sleeve condition is excellent and appears to have been handled very little. Spine and seams are clean and straight with no cracks or tears. Laminate is absolutely complete suffering only from a small area of lift near the spine (from Keith’s head to level with Bill’s) Corners of sleeve are sharp with no bumping. Virtually no visible ring mark and only two very light thumb creases – photograph is accurate but light shining on top right corner greatly exaggerates what is hardly even a soft ‘bend’. Opening sleeve edge (both back and front) is like new – very clean with absolutely no feathering. BACK COVER. Unlaminated area is superb (best I’ve seen) – still very ‘white’ with no ring wear. Very slight discolouration to top edge (near title logo) and along fold-back edge of laminate. Bottom left hand corner has tiny (2mm x 3mm) yellow mark. Overall I would rate the sleeve as Ex or EX+. It really IS that good! RECORD. Matrix numbers Side 1 XARL – 7209 – 4B, Side 2 XARL – 7210 – 4A. Red Decca labels very clean with only light spindle marks. Record sounds great - that Mono ‘thump’ is unrivalled! Plays completely free of skips and jumps with little in the way of crackles or pops. Vinyl is glossy and bright without the dulling of ‘groove wear’. Both sides have light paper scuffs and light surface scratches . Each side has a noticeable stylus mark (not really a scratch) across the grooves (approx 3cm length) that are barely audible – a very feint click heard 3 or four times. All in all very presentable and very playable. A strong Good or possibly a Very Good minus. There you have it! The record itself is pretty good but it’s the fabulous condition of the sleeve that pushes this one into orbit. Probably doing the record here a disservice but this could be great opportunity for someone to house their existing excellent copy of the record in this superb sleeve to create a pretty awesome set?
