Description

Robeson Sings with Orchestra and Chorus / Othello Records, L-101, ca. 1953, U.S. 

In the early 1950s, Paul Robeson started Othello Records to publish his recordings. "Robeson Sings" was distributed in two formats: a trade edition and a subscription edition. The latter, as here, were numbered and signed. Ours is #3532 and bears Robeson's strong pen signature. A VG/VG+ copy: the sleeve is bright and sound with very light wear to the corners and a a touch of ring-shadow to both front and rear. Still, quite presentable. The labels are clean but lightly rubbed. The sides are scuffed with some needle mark and several scratches on each side. The play on Side 1 is better: static and crunch, but nothing heavy. Side 2 is a bit rough - two spots with intrusive ticks, as well as the static and crunch. Both are quite listenable, but with reservations.
