Rita and the UPSETTERS were one of Baltimore’s classiest and most popular teen soul bands of the 1960’s. As house band at Baltimore’s Rhapsody Club, the Upsetters attracted the interest of soul singer Otis Redding, and in the spring of 1967 the band went on tour for six months as Otis’ backup band. The Upsetters eventually played all the major cities on the East Coast and backed or opened for major artists such as Solomon Burke and Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels among others.
