First Pressing, limited to 1000 copies.
The strangest. I was a fan, partly because I was living in San Francisco at the time and they were a local group, and like Thomas Pynchon, you couldn't just go see them!
A piece of history really, as this is where lo-fi began, the mash-up began, just as sampling would begin with the Residents' plunderphonic single "Beyond the Valley of A Day in the Life."
A parody of many many top 40 hits, sung in hilarious dire deconstructed fashion, and somehow providing a critique that equates pop music with fascism...not the last time anybody has made that connection. All you need is a sense of humor, and you'll know everything you need to know to successfully operate this strange device.
Some of the rare points about this pressing: the carrot that Dick Clark (no, that's not Hitler) is holding in his left hand is hand-colored orange and green on this limited sleeve, and was white thereafter.
Also present is what I'm wrongly calling an "obi," more properly a J-card I guess--it fit around the record sleeve under the shrinkwrap and provided the hapless record store shopper an extremely unhelpful essay called "Why Do the Residents Hate the Beatles?" I believe this insert was strictly part of the limited first pressing, tho I don't know it for a fact.
The vinyl is glossy and the sleeve and insert basically flawless.
