This collector’s item features live selections by R.E.M. at Tyrone’s in Athens GA, Jan. 10, 1981. (The show is more likely from Apr. 10, 1981.) Rave On is a Buddy Holly cover. The band is joined by Lynda & Cyndy Stipe for backing vocals on Wait.

As with a lot of bootlegs of its time, these albums are not top quality audio. But as collectors’ items, they represent a long-gone time in musical history. This is how many fans got to hear their musical heroes live for the first time; most were perfectly happy to wade through the numerous drawbacks of bootleg recordings to hear unreleased songs and often one-off cover tunes by their favorites.

Personnel: Michael Stipe (vocals); Peter Buck (guitar); Mike Mills (bass, backing vocals); Bill Berry (drums, backing vocals).

This is not a cut-out or a record-club pressing. It is the original bootleg issue.

Note: I haven't cleaned these two 46-year-old vinyl records because everybody seems to prefer their own methods. I'll leave the cleaning up to the buyer. Also, I'm not a professional vinyl seller or buyer. This comes from my own collection. Bought at Corner Records, downtown Blacksburg VA.

Enjoy the auction — and good luck!
