Review: This is an incredibly rare 45 RPM UHQR Reference Recording LP by Red Norvo titled "The Forward Look." This album is so rare that most people don't even know it exists! Mobile fidelity's UHQRs are common knowledge... but few know about Reference Records brief foray into the ultimate in vinyl sound quality.
This fantastic album was recorded by Keith Johnson on New Years Eve, 1957, in a small club setting. He used a custom made, tube 3 channel stereo tape deck. It was one of the very first made. He used 3 Altec mics, and recorded it as a live club performance. It was mastered by Doug Sax, and pressed on Japanese virgin vinyl. Half-speed mastering was by the late, great Jack Hunt at JVC, and of course pressed by JVC in Japan on 220 gram, UHQR virgin vinyl. Performances are by Red Norvo-Vibes, Jimmy Wyble-Guitar, Jerry Dodgian-Reeds, Red Wooten-Bass, John Markham-Drums .
