Description
Approximately 30 minutes on this 16 inch, black lacquer acetate coated aluminum, 33 1/3 rpm disc. This disc was recorded for reference purposes only and not available to the general public, Very Rare!
Side one features part of a rehearsal of a radio program starring Raymond Scott & His Orchestra with Dorothy Collins. The program begins with one breakdown of a show introduction, then the complete program introduction. This radio program may be titled "Good Listening". Raymond Scott & His Orchestra perform "Strike Up The Band", "Far Away Places" vocal Dorothy Collins, "Singing In The Rain", "Gallway Bay", "Power Your Face With Sunshine" vocal Dorothy Collins, "Moonlight On The Ganges". The last song is cut off. This is most likely the first half of a 30 minute radio program. The program is sponsored by Alka Seltzer. Approximately 13 minutes
Side two contains "The Jack Smith Show" radio program starring Jack Smith, Martha Tilton, Frank DeVol & His Orchestra, Terry O'Sullivan (announcer). Songs include "Has Anybody Seen My Gal" vocal Jack Smith, "A Wonderful Guy" vocal Martha Tilton, "I Wish I Were In Love Again" vocal Jack Smith, Martha Tilton, "My Dream Is Yours" vocal Jack Smith, "It's A Cruel Cruel World" vocal Jack Smith, Martha Tilton. Program is sponsored by Oxydol Detergent. Also includes a commercial for Chiclets Gum. 15 minutes complete
It is mentioned on the Jack Smith show that it's April Fools Day, and given the dates of the songs, and there is short Martin & Lewis Show promo, this program is most likely from April 1, 1949.
On The Raymond Scott side of the disc is written "3/31/42 ? 44" as possible dates, however I believe this is actually from March 31, 1949 as Raymond Scott had a different show sponsored by Alka Seltzer in 1949 titled "Herb Shriner Time", and it would be reasonable to assume these programs were recorded on consecutive dates
I could not find any reference to either one of these radio programs in any online radio log or database
Disc is in Excellent condition with Excellent or better sound, beautiful disc!
Due to their size, 16 inch discs will not play on most standard turntables. For $10 I can include a CD transfer of the entire disc for the buyer
