RAY CHARLES - LIVE AT NEWPORT

1959 UK MONO ORIGINAL PRESSING - on the LONDON ATLANTIC "American Jazz Recording" label, LTZ-K 15149

Matrix Numbers : Side 1  AML-1176-1B, stampers 21, A;  Side 2  AML-1171-1B, stampers 21, G

A truly excellent copy of this increasingly scarce LP, a recording of the groundbreaking concert that many critics view as the rubber stamping of the great Ray Charles' transition from blues to jazz

The condition of both sides of the vinyl is excellent - remarkably, despite it's 57 year old age, most of the original gloss has been retained on both sides of the vinyl and there are no obvious blemishes at all. Held against a bright light a number of light wispy hairlines come into view but there are no scratches and no scuffing.

The front laminated Robert Stace designed outer sleeve is in excellent condition also. The colour richness and vibrancy of the iconic front side photo impresses immensely. All edges are near perfect : no scuffs or rubbing at all. No fraying on the opening edge. The spine is totally intact : rigid and still perfectly defined. There is minimal scuffing on each of the corners and a few laminate crease lines adjacent and perpendicular to the edges, along with a slightly more obvious laminate crease which has just impacted the sleeve itself towards the bottom left hand corner. There is also a little (very minor) scuffing towards the top edge (see photo towards the top of the letter "E" in "CHARLES"), along with some minor scuffing in a similar position on the reverse side top flipback. Otherwise each of the top and bottom flipbacks are in great condition and fully functional. In fact the reverse side really is in excellent+ condition (see photo).

The quality of the audio is truly excellent. No skips, no pops or clicks, no distortion...perhaps just the occasional nano-second of static. After play grading this record the next thing I did was to play it again - I'd forgotten just what great music this is and how much a master of his work Ray Charles was.

Each label is pristine. No marks at all, not even the usual one or two very faint spindle trails, probably because the record has not been played that many times.

The track listing is :

Side 1:

1. THE RIGHT TIME

2. IN A LITTLE SPANISH TOWN

3. I GOT A SWEETIE

4. BLUES WALTZ

Side 2 :

1. HOT ROD

2. TALKIN' 'BOUT YOU

3. SHERRY

4. A FOOL FOR YOU

Comes complete with original poly lined inner sleeve - no tears, no splits, just some minor age discolouration, fully functional...excellent!

A truly excellent copy of this iconic original UK press album, featuring one of the great, and pioneering, jazz legends.

IF THIS ITEM INTERESTS YOU THEN YOU MAY LIKE TO TAKE A LOOK AT MY OTHER 60's/70'S VINYL OFFERINGS ALSO CURRENTLY ON EBAY : SOME REAL RARITIES!

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting UK vinyl for over 45 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. But now I am retired and a combination of space requirements and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller, and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no questions asked" refund policy

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take care in removing the record from the outer sleeve and properly protecting it in a separate white inner sleeve in order to prevent outer sleeve damage in transit, and for items that sell for over £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon postal insurance so please wait for an invoice before paying. I do discount P&P for multiple purchases. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. Richard
