Extremely rare original on Trans Radio - Rasputin and the Monks (5 OUT OF 6 STARS ON HANS POKORA'S RARITY SCALE!). Great, wild, inept Stones style garage rock from 1966. On the above album a grungy New Hampshire garage combo ran through seven cover versions:- I Want To Be Your Man, You'd Better Move On, Gotta Get Away, You Didn't Have To Be So Nice, 19th Nervous Breakdown, As Tears Go By and Roadrunner. In the 'prep-rock' genre along with all those Philips Academy bands' LP's and the Justice releases, this is for the hardcore collector.  The original LP is never - EVER - found -- not even in a VG+ condition -- we have a rare privilege of presenting a gorgeous NEAR MINT copy -- practically the only such specimen to be seen in the past 10  years or so.

This album is based on covers of bands of the era and earlier influences, all the songs are covers, "I wanna be your man", "19 th nervous breakdown", "Roadrunner" among others. All of them are great!, Fast and raw versions, and some great balads too, like "You better move on" and the cute version of "As tears go by".  No original compositions here, but pretty good sound for a short-lived garage band.

The sole album, or really sole LP side, by New England garage band Rasputin & the Monks has an odd release history. In 1966, it took up one side of a very rare LP, the other side of which had unrelated music by a school chorus. In 1984, it was reissued as a one-sided LP on the Resurrection label; in 1998, it took up part of a CD, the rest of which was devoted to another rare garage album of the time, the Foul Dogs' No. 1. No matter how it came out, it's never exactly been easy to find in your local record store, though of course the original 1966 pressing is by far the hardest edition to find. All seven of the songs are cover versions, with no less than five of these either written by or covered by the Rolling Stones on their early records. The drumming in particular skirts the amateurish, but Rasputin & the Monks do play with an appealing raw enthusiasm, even if they obviously haven't totally mastered all of the songs' nuances.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-         Shelf wear noted on all three seams

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No wrinkles or creases

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
