RARE SOUL/BLUES
OTIS RUSH
HOMEWORK/I HAVE TO LAUGH
VOCALION VP9260
RELEASED 1966
‘Homework’ is a deep R&B soul dancer. A great record. Recorded in 1962 whilst Otis Rush was on the Duke label. It ended up being his only release there. The flip ‘I Have To Laugh’ is a sort of answer record to Bobby Bland’s ‘I Pity The Fool’ and sounds a bit similar in places.
Previously Otis Rush had had some fabulous releases on the Cobra and Checker labels. I had the honour of seeing him perform in 1965. Fabulous left handed guitarist who only died three years ago, aged 84.
This record was not released in the U.K. until 1966, which was when I bought it and it has been part of my vast collection of Soul, R&B and Blues records since.
Both sides of the record play absolutely perfectly. Visibly, the record looks to be unmarked. Over 55 years it has been played and handled a few times but, as I have said, plays perfectly. I can hear no extraneous surface noise. There is no handwriting on the record and I have graded it as Excellent (Ex). [Any reflections in the photos are caused by the surroundings and are not on the vinyl.]
The record is in it’s original sleeve, which has no tears. Over 55 years the sleeve has been handled quite a bit but is in remarkably good condition. There is no handwriting on the sleeve. I have graded the sleeve as Very Good+.
The well packaged record will be despatched by Royal Mail Special Delivery, fully insured, at a subsidised cost of £5.
I always endeavour to combine postage where possible.
U.K. delivery only.
