Please kindly note that we are two friends running this eBay auction in our own time. About the Michael Barry Fund and Abort Retry Sale:
The Michael Barry Fund today is running Abort Retry Sale to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity, to honour and remember Michael Barry, who passed away earlier this year at just 35 years of age after fighting a brain tumour for over two years. Michael was a DJ, musician and promoter who had a significant impact on the Oxford music scene.
Michael was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January 2014, and the positivity and courage he showed throughout his illness was truly inspirational. Since he passed away Michael's wife Lucy has started The Michael Barry Fund, raising money in his memory for The Brain Tumour Charity to help fund vital research. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40, yet less than 2% of cancer research funding is spent on brain tumours in the UK. Over £12,735 has already been raised by The Michael Barry Fund through general donations, the sale of unique merchandising products, the We Are Your Friends gig in Oxford in September 2016, an open day at Emma Bridgewater’s gardens and an Instagram auction organised by Lucy of handmade craft items donated by many generous and well respected independent designers.
As part of the Oxford music scene Michael ran the city’s most popular club night in the mid-noughties, Abort Retry Fail?. Mixing the best indie, dance, electro and classic post-punk, the club became synonymous with the Oxford scene that spawned Foals, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Chad Valley. Foals appeared at the club several times, including a seminal show shortly before the release of their debut album, Antidotes, and other bands, such as Friendly Fires, achieved great popularity after playing ARF?.
Abort Retry Sale is an eBay auction of lots donated by Michael’s friends and those touched by his story.
