Description
LED ZEPPELIN II
1969
Red & Plum
PYE CONTRACT PRESSING & with the MISPRINT of "THANKYOU" & “She’s a Woman”…later changed to ‘She’s Just a Woman’
When this album was released in 1969 the Polydor pressing plant couldn't keep up with demand and had to reach across the pond to the US of A to keep up with demand...Contracting PYE to press these glorious slabs of vinyl whilst the furiously continued on to meet demand in the UK.
These rather rare pressings are easily identified by the etched matrix numbers, which simply end in 'A' and 'B' rather than their British counterparts ending with A5/B5 for example. PYE also made an error in the side B matrix-having had to then scratch out the 3rd digit (number 9)of the matrix and replace it with the number 8 just above the crossed out digit.
Not many of these were produced and even fewer exist today.
For further evidence of this rare 1st pressing is the misprinted title for track 4 on side A being "THANKYOU", rather than the correct "THANK YOU" as you will see on later copies, from both the PYE and Polydor pressing plants (as they both made this error).
So-that explains it's pressing rarity...and now for the condition of this one up for sale:

The Vinyl:
HEAVY 144g
VG-.
I have just given here a gentle vacuum clean and wow-the audio popped right out!
Being one of my favourite albums of all time-it really wasn't a chore to listen to her through at HIGH volume!!
The stereo split on Ramble On is lovely and clear and always makes me smile.
This quality, heavyweight slab of vinyl has been taken to a few parties (quite rightly so!!), providing just light marks to the vinyl and some light background noise-only slightly more evident on the quieter Thank You track...But I certainly didn't find them offensive at all-it just reminded me I am listening to a ground breaking album in glorious all oiriginal analogue format....I was still able to pick out the highs and lows which are cut out of the CD format...So much more depth to the album on vinyl...I noticed some brief periods of shilling, which provided a light background 'sssss' and the occasional loss of audio...these were more noticable in the quieter sections and occasionally inbetween tracks, with the start of Ramble On having around 5 seconds of this 'ssss' which sounded a bit like rain.
Strangely, right at the end of Ramble On the audio drops out for the last few bars...just as the song naturally begins to fade out....This leaves quite a pause from the end of that track and into Moby Dick (which plays through fine, right from the start)..This is why I have dropped the grading to a VG-.
Once the tracks really get going this background noise does exactly what it should: fade into the background..with the superb bass taking over.
NO JUMPS, SKIPS OR STICKS ON MY FOCUS ONE DECK.
!!!!AS ZEPPELIN WANTED YOU TO HEAR THEM-with some original pops and crackle!!!!
