This is the rare UK SX6258 MONO Genuine FIRST ISSUE Vinyl

I have for sale my beloved Pink Floyd "Saucerful of Secrets".  Bought by me in 1968 from a record shop in Ilkley, West Yorks.  I would estimate that it has only been played half a dozen times.  There is very little wear as can be seen from the photographs.  It has been kept in a plastic sleeve from new and stored upright in a record collection box.  It has not been played for the last 30 years and now I realise its potential value I daren't play it for fear of damaging it!

The record is in excellent condition for its age.  The vinyl has only a couple of very minor hairline marks which are only visible in bright light.

Housed in the original EMI advertising inner bag, which is in good condition except for a slight slit on the exposed edge which has been caused by the record when taking it in and out of the sleeve.

Complete with Garrod & Lofthouse laminated flipback picture sleeve. The sleeve is in excellent condition with rich colours and clean laminate with only very slight laminate creases to show for its forty two years.

Release Date: June 29, 1968
Release Information: First mono issue on a black Columbia label with a blue Columbia trademark logo. Gilmour is written as "GILMORE" on both the record label and cover.
Description:
Front Cover: Hipgnosis picture. Laminated flipback cover.
Back Cover: At top foldover of back cover it says "File under POPULAR : Pop Groups." At bottom foldover of back cover it says "6807 TPS Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patents pending SX6258 / SCX6258"
Inner Sleeve: Black printing on white paper. On the front side is the EMI logo at the top center, with "Add these outstanding LPs to your collection" at the top, 16 LP covers pictured in the middle including Both Sides of Herman's Hermits, and "Remember-the new Emitex cleans and preserves your records," and "Patents applied for" at the bottom. On the back side is the EMI logo at the top centre, with " - the greatest recording organisation in the world" at the top, 16 LP covers pictured in the middle including the Beatles-Revolver, and "E.M.I. Records (The Gramophone Company Ltd.) Hayes - Middlesex - England, Made and Printed in Great Britain" at the bottom.
Label: Black Columbia label with silver text, and a blue "Columbia Records Magic Notes Trademark" at the top, and a blue "Columbia" in the centre. KT stamped near centre hole.

Underneath the blue "Columbia" it says "Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions. See price lists."

At the bottom of the label, it says "Made in Gt Britain."

Text around the bottom edge of the label starts at 10 o'clock and says:

The Gramophone Co., Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorised public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited.

Todays picture 7 clearly shows the KT stamp near the centre hole and picture 8 shows the glossy condition of this record.  I am still finding it difficult to take close up shots of the stamper and mother so I will describe where they are positioned and try again for another day's picture.

Side 1  At 9 o'clock position it is stamped 1  at 2 o'clock position it is stamped 0

Side 2  At 9 o'clock position it is stamped 1 with a stamped 2 directly underneath. At 3 o'clock position it is stamped H

This is definitely a FIRST PRESS, FIRST ISSUE and has the Matrix XAX 3633-1 on side 1 and XAX 3634-1 on side 2.  In my earlier description I included the mother and stamper information as well as the matrix and I just wanted be clear.  Please ask if you want any further clarification.

Today's picture 9 shows the reverse of the inner sleeve including The Beatles - Revolver. Picture 2 already shows the face of this distinctive sleeve.  The first issue/press inner sleeves were black text on a white background (according to pinkfloydarchives.com) which this certainly is.  Look at the font style, images and wording of this sleeve, they are quite different to some of the later issues of this wonderful LP.

At the risk of becoming the longest listing ever made, I wish to add further information to my description and to qualify what I mean by first pressing. This Vinyl is made from the first lacquer masters on both sides, and is made from the 1st mother on side 1. The side 1 stamper 'O' would indicate that this is the 5th stamper.  At between 300 and 500 individual disc pressings per stamper, side 1 is one of the first 2500 copies of the MONO record ever made. Thanks for your patience.

Today's picture 10 shows a close-up of the most pronounced of the few laminate creases on the cover, just below the 'y'.  I have put the sleeve in a position for the light to catch the crease in the photograph.  It is not anywhere near as noticeable face on.  The picture again shows the general glossiness of the cover which shows very little wear.  If anyone wants a specific photo I'll try to include either tomorrow or Friday if you want to contact me before the auction finishes on Saturday.  Thanks again for watching.
