Welcome to my auction for a Rare Led Zeppelin album from my Personal Collection. A 2nd press with the orange lettering and the correct catalogue numbers 588 171, which can be found both on the vinyl and its sleeve. This variant  followed directly after the limited run of the 1st Pressing with the Turquoise lettering, however both use the same catalogue number. The labels differ with the Superhype publishing credit for the 1st press and Warner Bros for the 2nd press. During the late 60's most albums were still being made in both mono and stereo formats; Led Zeppelin's Debut album was one of the first albums to be released only in Stereo during this time. for more information and grading on this rare pressing please scroll down.

The Matrix numbers are corrected on both sides of this vinyl, the hand scribed replacement 8 can be seen in the photo below.

Artwork

The Hindenburg Airship image used on the cover was taken 6th May 1937 as the Airship was attempting to dock onto its tower, when leaking hydrogen gas from the airship ignited causing a rapid fire destroying it completely. This image was chosen to pay reference to the bands name Led Zeppelin.

The bands name Led Zeppelin was inspired some time earlier during a joking around type of conversation between Jeff Beck, John Entwistle  and Keith Moon, somthing about them forming a new band. According to Jimmy Page present at the time, Moon commented "it would down like a Lead Balloon", Entwistle improved on the statement by adding "like a Lead Zeppelin". Jimmy remembers this conversation whilst trying to think of alterative name instead of The New Yardbirds the band had first used. And that's what Led to one of the greatest band names of all time.

Time has done nothing to diminish the quality of all the albums tracks, and is still one of the finest albums ever to be recorded. Good Time Bad times, dazed and Confused  and Communication Breakdown  all heavy sounding tracks at the time albums release, and I find all three tireless however many times I've heard them. 

It maybe something with these early pressings, but the way Jimmy Page inventively plays the Steel strung acoustic guitar during the recording of Black Mountain, you can almost hear his fingers plucking at the stings. However the whole album is made up of live tracks due to cost savings on Studio time, and restraints the band put on themselves to complete the album as quickly as possible. Lack of recording time would led to faint leakage of Robert Plants voice onto other tracks, which can be made out on these loud cut early pressings, its not loud but headphones reveal these areas. 

Jimmy Page also employed a new recording technique by placing additional microphones some distance away from their Amps. This was done intentionally to record the bands Ambient Sound, which when mixed into the track, effectively gave the whole album a live performance affect throughout, something a computer would simplify nowadays but during the late 60's was a whole new sound from a studio recording. 

VISUALLY GRADING COVER

The fully laminated Sleeve has a some light handling creases, but very little corner wear, the grey strip to the bottom standard print on these early sleeves has hardly any surface wear. The sleeve is in very good condition  and the photos give a better impression of the condition than words can. I have graded the Sleeve VG++

VISUALLY GRADING THE INNER SLEEVE

The original inner sleeve is in excellent condition no splits just a few again handling creases.

VISUALLY GRADING THE VINYL

Using strong light there are some very fine sleeve removal, more wisp lines, and a handling line cross a small part of the inner track of side one and a very faint line on side two. These are noticeable under the light and I have tried to show them in the photos, however these are just on the surface and will not add clicks to the tracks. The grooves are clean and clear of dust and the surface has an overall shine as the photos clearly show. Both Red & Maroon labels are very clean and free of writing, a few spindle lines are noted, however these are faint and hard to photograph. A point worth noting on this early vinyl is that the tracks appear on the vinyl surface as only 3 on side one and only 2 on side two, even though there are all 9 tracks on this pressing, it has just very faint breaks between them during play. AUDIO GRADING THE VINYL

Some faint ticks are noticeable during the lead in and intro of side one, and during some areas quieter parts. these are faint and take nothing away from this loud cut early 2nd pressing. The vinyl plays throughout without any issues loud, and with clarity with excellent sound separation and no distortion.  VG++

I would like to stress that this record for sale is from my personal collection and I have graded it conscientiously using The Record Collectors Grading System for its overall condition, I have photographed the media without cropping the images tightly so it is completely visible and sleeve can be clearly viewed. I have made every effort to describe the record and its sleeve honestly. However, if you buy this record and feel it is not as the description, then please contact me through ebay for a full refund promptly and I will be happy to refund your money in full on return of the same record to me.   

POSTAGE AND PACKING

Postage within the UK for this record is £3.65 for recorded delivery. My standard record mailer packaging is not charged for. Your record will be packed to a high a standard. I only use brand new high quality record mailers. All records are removed from Cover sleeve before packing. The record and its sleeve are sealed in a plastic outer to prevent any possible moisture touching this record or its sleeve during postage. I use stiffeners to protect the record. I can combine postage for more than one record, costs varies for weight, so please message me before hand. I can also for extra cost pack your record into mailing box for added protection. Records can be Insured and sent Overseas, and they will be packed  as above and shipped using Royal Mail, either Airmail or Airsure please message me for postage costs. Records are dispatched within two working days of receiving cleared funds.

RECORD COLLECTORS GRADING SYSTEM

MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and extra items are in perfect condition. Records advertised sealed or un-played should be mint.

EXCELLENT The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD the record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover suffers from folding scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.
