HERE'S a very oddball item from the mid-'30s - possibly the only release on the "ROYAL" label. HARRY OWENS AND HIS ROYAL HAWAIIANS, resident band at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu, performs homegrown numbers (Owens compositions); "SYNCOPATED HULA LOVE SONG" and "I'VE FOUND A LITTLE GRASS SKIRT FOR MY LITTLE GRASS SHACK."
This whole record looks home-grown! It's laminated pressing, the grooves look like they were cut on an amateur rig, the thing is conspicuously dubbed.
Since the tiny printing is hardly visible against the crimson background and frustrates my camera (sorry!), I'll reproduce it here: "Recorded in the Garden Court of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on the beach at Waikiki." - "Royal Recording Company - 229 South Beretania Street - Honolulu, Hawaii." It was hardly legible even while examining the actual record under a strong light!
This original ca. 1935 Royal 1 is in EE- condition. Some label scratches.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
