Here is the beautifully rare release from Condello!

That old aphorism, believe half of what you see but none of what you hear, kicked in. I was quite skepical about this one despite having heard and read some good things about Phase 1. I had been very disappointed with Condello's parody-o-rama Wallace & Ladmo's Greatest Hits so I wasn't sure what to expect... or how much to invest. Fortunately, my fears were laid to rest at first spin.

Apparently based in both Arizona and California, it's not surprising that the Condello album's basic constitution is flowing and well-crafted West Coast rock. And while it would not be accurate to state the tracks sound alike, the entire album maintains a consonant vibe. Guess I Better Go is representative.

However, this LP offers much more than simple subdued mellow pop-rock. A number of cuts, such as Oh No, are underscored by cool, appealing guitar riffs. And habitué of a heavier and harder groove should enjoy the final track, It Don't Matter, the album's most explosive play. But the Psych Tripper fave is a slice of lysergic lunacy, Dr. Tarr Professor Fether,  a cut that actually does its moniker justice.

Phase 1 is an undeniably well produced and pleasant album which has a bit something for everyone. It may not rate a spot on stone-cold killer, but it's hard to imagine anyone finding this spin rank or chiselly.
