Description
Chicago Transit Authority – Chicago Transit Authority I – 2 LP Vinyl Set – Columbia GP 8 / CS 9809 / CS 9836
Classic double-LP debut album from Chicago Transit Authority, the band that would later shorten its name to Chicago. Originally released by Columbia Records in 1969, this landmark album combines rock, jazz, blues, and the horn-driven sound that would become Chicago’s trademark.
This album includes several classic Chicago songs, including Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?, Beginnings, Questions 67 and 68, and I’m a Man. The album was produced by James William Guercio.
This is a U.S. Columbia two-record gatefold pressing. The set is cataloged as GP 8. Record 1 carries catalog number CS 9809 and Record 2 carries catalog number CS 9836. The records have the red Columbia labels with orange/gold Columbia lettering.
The photographed runout/matrix information includes XSM 139840-1AC. Based on the Columbia label design, this appears to be a later Columbia reissue/repress rather than the original 1969 first pressing, which used an earlier Columbia label design.
VINYL CONDITION: VG to VG+
Both records are in very good to very good plus used condition and retain a nice shine. They show relatively little overall wear for their age. Record 1 has a light visible scuff along with some minor signs of handling and play.
Both records have been tested and sound amazing.
COVER CONDITION: Good to VG
The original gatefold cover shows noticeable wear from storage over the years, including surface scuffing, rubbing, edge wear, and creasing. The black exterior shows the storage wear particularly clearly.
The cover remains structurally intact and is holding together well. The top and bottom seams are not split. The interior gatefold features the original band photographs, track information, and credits and remains intact.
